Are you canceling plans for the 4th?

Finally, as seen on this thread, many are still processing the demise of RvW so please be conscious of their suffering and anguish as well.

Sounds like you need to find a remote cabin in the woods for the sake of your neighborhood.

Because it may be better than where your family came from doesn't make it the best country in the world.

Then I just saw two social media posts about the same. One from a friend who said her family would be attending a protest at X location instead. Another from a friend who announced they were no longer celebrating and would be wearing black on that day instead.

I told my kids our plans got canceled and neither seemed to care. DS said there's nothing to celebrate this year. DD said wearing black is a trend that's going around on tictock along with not buying gas July 2 (or 3rd maybe?) and a women's strike.

Hahahaha

Good grief. What joyless, miserable people. We will be wearing our red white and blue, attending a parade, and then bbq-ing and watching fireworks with a bunch of friends. Have fun moping around in black bemoaning that you must drive further to kill your baby. What a bunch of miserable psychos. I’m pro-choice in the old school kind of way (safe, legal, rare), but do believe that as the science of preemie viability changes, the law should reflect that. My daughter’s best friend is a wonderful girl who was a very early preemie. It changed how I felt about second trimester abortion. The nuance of this issue has been given back to the states. It’s unpatriotic to engage in hyperbole that something else has happened.

What do you think of the Supreme court taking away New York State laws for concealed guns? Why can't they trust states to decide what their people want? Oh gosh I can't carry a gun everywhere I want...boo hoo

Because one is constitutionally protected and one is not. Pretty simple.

Hoping to do a lot of fireworks and later see all the posts complaining about the noise and sleeping babies.

Don’t let these conservative piggies own patriotism or pretend they care about liberty. They will gun down their fellow citizens as soon as they get the OK from Uncle Clarence.

I certainly hope you are joking; otherwise, you need deep therapy for whatever your uncle did to you.

Ever you admit uncle Clarence is a sex abuser

Welcome! I love it here and happy to know others feel the same way!

The fourth was my favorite holiday forever and not because I’m super patriotic or anything but because I come from an immigrant family and I felt truly grateful for the opportunities we have been given here. But the past six/seven years have been terrible and now with the SCOTUS of ruling and everything about 1/6 coming out, I am just not in the celebratory mood.

Were you born in the United States or are you DACA?

Nearly every immigrant I know is pro Trump. They love him. Work in construction. My observation.

The only workers on my jobs who are pro Trump are the few American electricians, plumbers, and AV techs. The hispanic workers don't give two f's about politics. They are here to make money and to make a better life for those they are supporting in their home countries and for their children. Even the rednecks and black dudes who work for the utility companies and the County give them respect for how hard they work. I do too.

See, you morons, this is how you do it. None of that overwrought hysteria. “Pet parents” *chef’s kiss*

Can’t kill people that make sandwiches wrong, can’t keep black people in their place, can discriminate against Hispanics, can’t attack Asians in the subway, can’t tie gay people to a stake and light them on fire, can’t take AR-25’s to pizza places to “save the children”… they are terribly boring.

Oh please. Democrats are the racist party. Outlawing housing by so people must be homeless, insisting that minorities want to be mugged and experience violence in their communities. Defunding the police. Please. These are policies that are popular with white AU Park virtue signalers, not actual minorities.

. Wow. Not even sure how to respond to such a ridiculous statement. That is some pretty awesome mental manipulation you have going on there to actually believe that. Scary, really.

This is what it sounds like to me too. How did performance become our highest purpose?

Yeah, no human being is a pet "parent". My PTSD-filled actual human family is uncomfortable with fireworks too, though.

True. It's all performance and not all of it is new. But I think we need to pay attention to how performing is replacing rational solution-seeking in our culture.
