Are you canceling plans for the 4th?

Then I just saw two social media posts about the same. One from a friend who said her family would be attending a protest at X location instead. Another from a friend who announced they were no longer celebrating and would be wearing black on that day instead.

I told my kids our plans got canceled and neither seemed to care. DS said there's nothing to celebrate this year. DD said wearing black is a trend that's going around on tictock along with not buying gas July 2 (or 3rd maybe?) and a women's strike.

Sounds like social media is affecting how one kid feels.

I limit media intake so I’m not as morose as others. I have to earn a living and run a business so can’t dwell in depression and so on. I will donate to women’s health and abortion choice causes.

We could all be morose about so many things—cults that kill people, bodies found in barrels, the many shootings that happen today and didn’t make the news, the teen girls in NOVA being trafficked, Nazi Republicans, people who lost their homes in last night’s storm.

Look for the helpers. Become a helper.

Being educated is not morose or depressing.

But go on with yourself not caring about the girls in nVA being trafficked

Social media is not education; it is hysteria.

You have bought into the insanity. Please seek the professional help you clearly need.

It's great advice for kids. Not so much for adults.

We are allowed to feel the way we feel, even if you don't agree. We didn't feel like decorating for the fourth or celebrating much this year, and it looks like most of our neighbors didn't either. No decorations, no parties, etc... Some will probably set off illegal fireworks tonight but that's about it. Most of us aren't happy about a conservative religious minority taking away rights.

Please stop with the “best country in the world” cr@p.
If you’re middle class or wealthy it’s not a bad place to live.
But the US doesn’t ever even make it to the top of any quality of life lists. I’ve lived in 5 countries and they’ve all had their issues, though some definitely offered a better quality of life for me.

Totally agree. We are an International Family. Living in the States has certain benefits (particularly with regard to furthering my career, and my DH’s career)

But there are many other places in the world that offer more culture, safety, freedom, and a higher standard of education than the US.

For those who realize that Independence Day is a farce, and wish to live elsewhere, I encourage you to spread your wings and fly. Enjoy what the world has to offer while you are still on it.

After all, there is more to life than cheap petrol, a “right” to own battle weapons, and having MacDonalds Restaurants everywhere.

Ughhh “International Family” poster strikes again. Honestly I cringe when I read these posts because they remind me of me when I first started traveling to Europe as a teen. I thought I was sooo changed and sooo cultured, basically because I spent no more than a week or two at a time in multiple Western European capitals, eating, drinking, and doing touristy things. But the older I’ve gotten, the more I realize that traveling exposes you to great things about other places, but it also reminds you of what’s good in your own country, despite its imperfections. I roll my eyes so hard at the “hate The US/worship Europe at all costs” mentality. It tells me that person doesn’t have an actual understanding of the world and the people in it. But sure, calling gas “petrol” on a US based forum is just the height of sophistication.

Why do I feel like the “international family” poster is a Russian troll, paid by Putin’s government ?

Yet, international family won't leave because she and DH have better careers here than elsewhere. Quelle dommage -- the filthy lucre means we are stuck with International Family until the browning of American becomes a bit too much for them.

Please stop, or post a REAL reference. All I see are all kinds of hand-wringing articles about how women might not be able to get a D&C after a miscarriage or other similar tales. A D&C after a miscarriage is not an abortion, even if the procedure is the same. It is not "already starting."

By engaging in this silliness, you are hurting the left by proving that everything that is said about us is true. Love your country. Change its politics.
