A friend who was hosting a BBQ and fireworks viewing from their house just canceled due a lack of patriotism.
Then I just saw two social media posts about the same. One from a friend who said her family would be attending a protest at X location instead. Another from a friend who announced they were no longer celebrating and would be wearing black on that day instead. I told my kids our plans got canceled and neither seemed to care. DS said there's nothing to celebrate this year. DD said wearing black is a trend that's going around on tictock along with not buying gas July 2 (or 3rd maybe?) and a women's strike. |
| I did not cancel any, but I had no enthusiasm to make any plans. |
| That hurts nobody but you. Enjoy the holiday. Donate to activism and vote. |
| I feel the same way. We will watch fireworks. But we have stopped putting up the flag. |
| We will celebrate this year as any other year. If you dislike the US so much, please move. I am first generation American and I know the sacrifices my parents made to get us here. America is still the best country in the world, regarding of what the media spin is this week. |
If you really loved this country you would be grieving with the rest of us. |
Do you always just get up and leave if something is broken or hard? I just hate this statement! |
You don't understand this country at all. . |
If you think moving countries is easy, you haven't been paying attention to your parents' story. |
| I'm as pissed off as anybody about the SC decision, but this all seems very drummed up from and for social media for me. |
She already left one. It is easy for her. |
Personally, I am not on any social media and have been thinking about canceling our plans. I’m just not in the mood to celebrate the country. As a woman, and one with daughters, I find it hard to celebrate a country that has taken away our right to make decisions about our own bodies. Oh, and I’m a second generation immigrant too. My grandmother is as upset as I am. |
No. We don’t have to move. We are staying and working for change. Deal with it. |

Conservatives don’t own the flag. Forced birthers don’t own the flag. I’m putting up my flag proudly on the Fourth. I’m hosting a family BBQ and fireworks in the evening. I’m grateful for my independence, my freedoms, and the fact that I can and will fight to make this country a better place.
To those of you who are canceling celebrations or grieving: You’re waving a flag of defeat to the opppsition. |
