Are you canceling plans for the 4th?

We usually go down to watch the fireworks but I am worried about a stampede this year. I was at the March for Our Lives early this month and did not like the chaos the gun nut caused. We just can't have nice things anymore.

What is the media spinning?

So celebrate your parents. And the USA is far, far from the best country in the world.

And wtf does the β€œmedia” have to do with it?!

Hell no! Best holiday of the year, and we love our country. We also love our friends and neighbors, drinking beers all day to classic rock, then lighting a bunch explosives!!

No one is taking that away from me or my kids. Life is much bigger than politics.

Same as always.

We can change what’s wrong with this country.

Then I just saw two social media posts about the same. One from a friend who said her family would be attending a protest at X location instead. Another from a friend who announced they were no longer celebrating and would be wearing black on that day instead.

I told my kids our plans got canceled and neither seemed to care. DS said there's nothing to celebrate this year. DD said wearing black is a trend that's going around on tictock along with not buying gas July 2 (or 3rd maybe?) and a women's strike.

Interesting, my daughter had the same conversation with me today she said that we should wear black. She also said she does not feel proud of our country. She's not wrong. I feel very blah about the 4th.

We are experiencing a wrinkle of time in our young democracy. A variety of circumstances led to this current moment.

RBG could have retired earlier, leading to a liberal judge
If someone other than Hilary ran, Trump may never have gotten elected.

These are just the two biggies that led us to where we are today.

The Supreme Court is not perfect -- nothing in our government is. But it's the best we have.

I urge everyone to think of it as an unfortunately sequence of circumstances that are just that -- by chance. There is no ground swell of conservatism sweeping the nation's people.

There is no 'enjoyment' of freedom of our liberties when they are being taken away. Good grief I am surprised we have to spell it out for you.

Nope! It's my country too and I'm not going anywhere. That'll be the day when I let anti-choicers and Right-wingers run me out of it. Your parents might not have taught the family that in this country, we stay here and work for change.
