Whoopi says the Holocaust was not about race

The thing about Whoopi is that she has always been someone who is tolerant and racially accepting. She is not an anti-semite nor is she a holocaust denier.

Starting with intention is key. People whose intentions are pure are allowed to have opinions, get feedback, adjust and correct. Whoopi should not be vilified for this... she is not the enemy. She acknowledged that she is wrong and she apologized.

exactly. People are intentionally and willfully misconstruing what she said.

Now this gets me thinking. There are Ethiopian Jews (they don’t get treated that well in Israel apparently with being recognized etc), and all kinds of Jews, but if Jewish is comsiderad race are they actual Jews or just converts? Catholics aren’t a race. All this is so confusing to me. I thought Jewish was a religion not a race.

I’m not Jewish but that’s how I’ve always viewed it as well. I thought everybody knew this.

The thing to understand is, I'm not religiously Jewish. I was raised Presbyterian.

But under Third Reich policies, I'd be sent to my death because my granddad was Jewish.

So it's definitely not just about religion. It was racism.

Race isn't real, but racism (the belief that race is real and that one race or multiple races are better than other races) is real, and the racism behind the Nazi movement considered "Jewish" to be a race, hence the inclusion of nonpracticing Jews and Christians with a Jewish grandparent in the Nazi extermination program.

Nazis viewed Jews as a race and used racial “purity” tests. The key point is that the Nazis sought to exterminate the Jewish people. Her comments were weird and cruel.
