Here’s the article about Whoopi’s Jewish American Princess Fried Chicken recipe published in a book a while back.

The recipe she submitted: Jewish American Princess Fried Chicken.

A black guy on Fox News last week (I think his name is Tyrus and he’s on Gutfeld’s show—saw the clip on YouTube) explained that Whoopi is basically an old black lady and her lack of awareness (at best) or antsemitism (my word, not his) is common among her demographic. That also tracks with my real world experience.

In short: she doesn’t understand the plight of the Jews because she’s spent her life believing stereotypes. Her worldview is that Jews hold all the power. They’re the most powerful, privileged of the whites. As such, how could they really know suffering?

And as a black person, she sees black/white racism as the sole lens of everything. It’s a very American way of thinking, and it’s not new.

I bet you a million bucks that if you asked Whoopi or any black person her age how she feels about Asians, she would probably argue they aren’t a persecuted race either. She would say they are practically white and privileged. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that from older black Americans.

FTR, the people on the fox segment were seemingly defending Whoopi. They said she was wrong, learned from her mistake, and apologized.

Way to defend Jews by stereotyping Black people. What an idiot.

That wasn’t my intention.

From my perspective as a white person, I think racism and bias are literally everywhere…and everyone has the capacity for bias, prejudice, etc. Furthermore, all racism/prejudice is wrong. For whatever reason, many black Americans feel like their experience with racism trumps everything else. And as evidenced by Whoopi’s clunky and bizarre comments and actions, antisemitism doesn’t even register in the minds of some black people—particularly older black Americans.

I thought Tyrus’ comments were spot on.

Bill Maher weighed in to essentially say of course black people have a different life experience and perspective on things. He gave the example of Whoopi’s comments on the Michael Vick dog scandal as a prime example; she defended Vick by saying he grew up in a culture where dogs were used for sport. Similarly, many black Americans—as well as white Americans—grew up in a culture of antisemitism where Jews are considered powerful and privileged and their plight is simply ignored or forgotten.

I’m curious if McWhorter has weighed in on this.

I’m wondering how many frank conversations you’ve had about race and ethnicity in mixed groups? I’ve participated in several over the last two decades in both professional and social settings. Full disclosure: my day job is in the SJW space, and foundations have invested in professionally facilitated discussions that are quite eye opening. My takeaway: Asians are upset that they are essentially considered white and privileged by black people since the Asian stereotype is a success story. There’s more; each group has its own perspective and lens. Honestly, white people are typically the ones who can most easily see that each group experiences racism and all of it is wrong. Put another way: anti-black racism isn’t worse or harsher than anti-Asian or anti-Muslim or anti-whatever racism/bias. It’s all bad.

I’ve literally been in professionally facilitated racial reckonings in cities big and small across the country focused on these issues. The Jewish angle is rarely addressed (but islamaphobia typically is). When antisemitism is raised, racial minorities are quick to distinguish it since Jews are white and hold power. It’s dismissive and glaringly inappropriate.

PP, your experiences are your experiences — however Black-adjacent you might believe yourself to be — but you might want to check yourself when you try to go beyond your own limitations to imagine what “ any Black person her age” feels. You’re criticizing Goldberg for her own ignorance— while highlighting your own.

To paraphrase you: In short, as a non-Black person…you’ve apparently spent your life believing stereotypes. Adding your twisted stereotypes to the mix is hardly furthering the conversation in any meaningful or accurate way.

Other black people are saying the same thing, fwiw.

Then they don’t need a translator.

Lol.

What a poor attempt at trolling.

If you’re going to pretend to have some inside scoop on minorities, then you might want to leave out the use of “SJW” and the playing Asians off black people. Your comment has “hateful right-wing white trying sow division” all over it. Moron.

Eh…Whoopi will get a pass. Correct political views.

Knives are out for Rogan.

It's clear that Johnson is an anti-semite who appropriated a typically Jewish last name 1) because "Jews control Hollywood" and 2) to be able to get away with making anti-semitic jokes. The fact that she still has a career is proof enough that Jews don't control shit in Hollywood and that anti-semitism is acceptable to many.

Come on, it's not like Whoopi is sheltered in the Black community and doesn't know any Jews. She works in comedy, in show biz, one of her best friends is Billy Crystal, ....

I think she genuinely believes she has Jewish ancestry so I just don't get how she never learned about why the Holocaust happened.

Are you seriously "One of her best friends is Jewish"ing?
She's an ignorant high school dropout and an anti-semite. She has no Jewish ancestry and knows that she doesn't. She literally took a Jewish sounding name because she thinks Jews runs things, and has hid behind that name to try to get away with being an anti-semite.

I think she probably knows why the Holocaust happened — but obviously does not share the Nazi’s views about race and racism, and commented accordingly, inadvertently creating a teachable moment.

Interesting article:

https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/05/us/whoopi-goldberg-understanding-holocaust-race/index.html

Basically in US Jews are seen as white, in Europe they were seen as a race.

It was not about race. It was more about Religion. No?
