Not us headed to Rosa Parks.

Not for SSIMS that I'm aware.

Nothing for CJMS either.

Where is this recommendation supposed to appear?

If you choose Course Request on the menu, there may be a section called Teacher Recommendations.

Thanks! My DC’s just says “course requests not available at this school”, which makes sense since she’s still in ES. But I’ll know where to check from now on.

At the Loiederman registration night we were told that Central Office gives the schools lists of which kids can take which math classes. At LMS the lowest option is 6+. The same “central office” list system is used to determine which students take Global Humanities versus the regular 6th grade World History class. Coming from homeschooling I asked the history teacher how we could test in to the advanced history class and she had no idea. Suggested contacting central office. So I feel like it’s all determined by standardized tests and grades that central office can access and not teacher recs. We were told we would find out in August which math and history class our kids would be placed into.

Why did they have all these registration Zooms for parents if we don’t even know yet what they’re registering for?

To be able to choose electives.

I think they get a basic recommendation but are very flexible. We had the options on our registration sheet and we choose the math that was the best fit. In the past, LMS has only had one history class so that much be new.

Talk to the Middle School. Bring MAP Scores. See if they have a placement test.

One of my children went through compacted and AIM but was bored all 3 years. They were consistently scoring 30+ points over the 99% on their map-m with 0 outside enrichment. I had asked that they be moved up but the school said there was nothing they could do. I ended up just signing them up for classes outside of school and they use MCPS math as a study hall.

It is school specific on what they offer.

Yes, 2022-23 will be the second school year of the advanced 6th grade history. We were told it was the same curriculum but with books and extension projects

Is AIM going to use Illustrative Math as the curriculum next year?
