At the Loiederman registration night we were told that Central Office gives the schools lists of which kids can take which math classes. At LMS the lowest option is 6+. The same “central office” list system is used to determine which students take Global Humanities versus the regular 6th grade World History class. Coming from homeschooling I asked the history teacher how we could test in to the advanced history class and she had no idea. Suggested contacting central office. So I feel like it’s all determined by standardized tests and grades that central office can access and not teacher recs. We were told we would find out in August which math and history class our kids would be placed into.
I think they get a basic recommendation but are very flexible. We had the options on our registration sheet and we choose the math that was the best fit. In the past, LMS has only had one history class so that much be new.
Yes, 2022-23 will be the second school year of the advanced 6th grade history. We were told it was the same curriculum but with books and extension projects
