How does 6th grade math placement work? My 4th grader is, for lack of a better way to put it, a total math whiz and bored in his compacted math class. The curriculum site lists Algebra 1 as an "other option" for 6th grade. Is that something a kid could test into, or what?
Talk to the Middle School. Bring MAP Scores. See if they have a placement test.
One of my children went through compacted and AIM but was bored all 3 years. They were consistently scoring 30+ points over the 99% on their map-m with 0 outside enrichment. I had asked that they be moved up but the school said there was nothing they could do. I ended up just signing them up for classes outside of school and they use MCPS math as a study hall.
It is school specific on what they offer.
