She admits to years of abusing her children and the right to continue to abuse them. You really think she doesn't need to at least speak to an attorney? |
You seem to be ignorant pretending that everyone should know about your strange practices. This is a civilized country in case you didn’t realize it. |
Female genital cutting is also a part of some cultures. I guess CPS should allow that as well? |
This isn't years of abusing a child. Be real. Stop being dramatic about it. Clearly CPS didn't see it as a high priority or they would have been out there by tonight. No, I don't think she needs to speak to an attorney. She should take her child to the doctor tomorrow morning to look at it and fix what every is ailing the child and talk to the worker and apologize and don't do it again. |
Stick to the topic. Its not done here and that would be CPS involvement. |

Asian here. OP, I can't believe you did that and came here to post about it. They are not from your country nor your culture. They don't understand. They think it's voodoo, and they will crucify you.
Every time I hear about something like this, I always think, how dumb or ignorant can you be to do it here in America. Any sign of bruises on a kid will be reported, and it's not really worth the trouble to do it. Stop doing it on a kid. Adult only. |
Yes, you should know. Its similar to acupuncture and cupping in some cultures. Its cultural competency 101. |
It doesn't matter what the cultural context is. under the law, the daycare should report it. Not their place to assess the cultural, medical, or other context. It is, however, their legal obligation to report bruising like OP describes regardless of the cause. |
Even if they know what it is, they will report it because of the type of bruising. |
|
Cupping/coining kids is similar to infant male circumcision or piercing babies' ears in that they all fall under procedures that are unnecessary/ mildly barbaric/ cultural.
I personally would choose to do none but obviously everyone is entitled to their own thoughts about these. |
Reread the thread. She literally said she's been doing this for years to all her children. Ok, so if she takes her child to the doctor and the doctor agrees that this is child abuse, what next? She is causing deep, purple bruising on the child. |
| OP youare in big trouble if your other kids tell the social workers you have done it to them in the past. |
Cultural Competency 101 Omg I’m laughing so hard. I would have failed that class. Never heard of coining. I guess I don’t pass your cultural litmus test. |
|
Just to end the debate - the District of Columbia CPS manual says that the practice of coining is an abusive.

No it’s not. |
