Got reported to child protection service

Anonymous
This is OP to update. This child protection service is closed. It has been more than 1 week since reporting, and no one from CPS has ever contacted me. I build up my courage to ask daycare upon pickup yesterday, and they told me that CPS called them back saying that they know what that is and they are not concerned. They sometimes get these treatment on themselves and those are not bruises.

My kid's dark red mark are all gone on its own a few days after. I decide to post this update because I come back and see some posts here are purely attack just because "coining" is not an American thing. Being a minority here, I have been open minded and respected many American and other countries' cultures and customs even though some of them are considered "not normal or uncommon" in my home country. I just want people to be more open minded and thank you for some posters for helpful advices/tip/comment.

Thank you everyone, and wish everyone happy holidays!

Glad to hear it went ok, OP.

Great to hear that they didn’t waste anyone’s time this time
The daycare though is so eye roll worthy.
Hope you get out of there soon
Good luck

I don’t understand any culture that make bruises on children.

You chose to come here. You are not doing anything extraordinary by "being openminded" about the culture you chose to be part of.

Understand Op. I was. Thinking of gua sha. I had it done, it’s great not painful at all but skin look very scary afterwards.
There was actually a movie about Chinese parents having trouble labeling as child abuse and fought through CPS because they did gua sha to their kid. ( old movie) so now this method is quite well known to cps to be aware of. Happy for you OP.

I’m not attacking you about coining. I don’t understand it, I don’t like it. But what I don’t understand is how CPS could not have followed up because this is how kids fall in the cracks and we get horror stories. I’m not comparing you to them but objectively speaking, you should have been at least visited you.

I was worried and left a message for the regular pediatrician to tell her what has happened and what I did. My kid does not take any herbal medicine and broths that I boiled for hours. I have not got any call from CPS, and I have learned my lesson. But you know what, coining does help to improve better health.

OP your pediatrician is a mandated reporter too. If the pediatrician disagrees with your cultural practices you will now have multiple people reporting you. You really need a lawyer. You can lose your kids this way.

OP is almost certainly not going to lose her kids over this one incident. CPS is loathe to remove kids from custody, well beyond the point when they should.

That said, OP, please don’t do this again. You can’t deliberately and repeatedly bruise your kids in this country, regardless of your personal cultural beliefs.

Absolutely she can. CPS can determine that because she insists on performing this abusive act and doesn't see it as abusive, they can make the determination to remove the children. The OP is now calling more mandated reporters to likely get her reported again. CPS has a ton of power. Anyone that deals with CPS knows that you take them 100% seriously.

Having been a CPS worker, I had one family who engaged in coining but those kids were not in care because of the coining but because of mental health and substance abuse as well as severe neglect. The mom wasn't able to care for the kids. These kind of things get called in regularly. They are no abusive in and of itself. Stop being dramatic. It was appropriate for the day care to call but more than likely, worst case CPS will come in, talk to her, do a safety plan and help her understand why not to do it (but she can tell the worker she didn't know and has since spoken to others who explained its not an ok practice here) and then do a follow up visit or two. It would be very unlikely that CPS would provide ongoing services and even less likely to remove a child over this.

OP made a mistake. It is a well known cultural practice in some parts of Asia. Stop scaring them when its probably just ruled out. If CPS was going to remove or really concerned they would have come same day/next day. We live in a very diverse area.

At no time has the OP stated that it was a mistake. The OP is insisting that it is a part of her culture. If she continues down this path how would you handle it in CPS? Allow the child to continue to be bruised?

It is part of her culture.

Female genital cutting is also a part of some cultures. I guess CPS should allow that as well?

I think Botox should be outlawed. People should not be allowed to inject poison into other people.

I don't disagree with you that Botox is gross, but the difference is Botox is injected into consenting adults.

I also think that tattoos are gross, but again, that's done to consenting adults so I don't have a problem with it being legal.

OP's kids are not adults and cannot give consent to the coining.

Thanks for the update, OP.

Don't worry about the haters. There are some seriously stupid people on here who don't hesitate in vitriolically terrorizing others based on a short description of a situation. It happened to you, it happens on the pet forum, it happens in politics, for Covid, etc... Intelligent people can acknowledge they might not grasp the entirety of a situation and reserve judgment, but the idiots will rush in with knee-jerk insults and drama.

It's actually considered abuse in DC. So it's not like people are off base...

Lots of things people do are considered abuse and neglect and people do them anyway.

Actually they do give consent if they are laying there while she is doing it and not fighting it. She may have asked them if they want her to do it.

Of all things to scream about abuse, this is't one.

Botox is used for children and adults with cerebral palsy and other disorders to free up muscle groups and allow walking and ease of movement. It has medical uses. Please stop talking out of your ass.
