Discrimination against Asians

The exchange takes place in the series, "A Suitable Boy," an adaptation of the award-winning novel by Indian author Vikram Seth, which was released on the streaming service last month.

The story follows the love life of a young Hindu woman and at one point, depicts her being kissed by a Muslim man at a Hindu temple.

You can’t make this racism up. It permeates Indian culture.

Hindu and Muslim are races now? Lol, gotta love white people

I wonder how many would have been be head ed if it was a Hindu man kissing a Muslim woman in a mosque.

Oh, yeah, I see. Critical race theory only applies to blacks.
Stop haranguing us white peeps, go plant your BLM, Love is love signs and whatever else you libs do in your free time.

BLM supporters didn’t start this topic nor do I even see the topic until you brought it up. There is a lot talk of Asian superiority over Blacks and hispanics, even to the extent one of the posters believes the spots in AAP occupied by students belonging to these groups which are underrepresented in the program should be occupied by Asian students. After all, white and Asian kids are superior to Black and hispanic students.

White people are funny. Always putting themselves in the middle of problems they created and pretending to be the hero. Tell me, how many white people in history have moved to a non-white country where they didn't know the language and had very little money, were discriminated against and made fun of, and were able to build entire communities of successful families and improved the greater community around them through paying taxes and making schools better? I only hear white oppressors in places like Zimbabwe and South Africa, who didn't struggle, complaining when their privilege rightly gets taken from them. And this is coming soon to an American city near you if it hasn't started happening already.

+1. White people are very clever in forcing other races to take the punishment for the atrocities committed by their white ancestors

Asian person here and a student of history.

Most colonies established by white people were successful. It was a combination of force, technology, along with a highly motivated group of people who were able to conquer, and build something out of nothing, as the areas colonized did not have an existing industrial base. Most colonists were not rich, some were forced to become colonists as punishment, others tried their luck and were motivated otherwise they would starve. There are valid concerns about treatment of the native populations, or imported workers, but at the same time if you look at many former British colonies, those of Chinese of Indian descent who lived outside of Asia tended to do quite well, and some of those populations were forced to leave Africa after the British gave up their empire.

South African and Zimbabwe are interesting cases. After whites gave up power, Zimbabwe has suffered famine, and South Africa, a former nuclear power, has it's infrastructure is crumbling. Zimbabwe's land reforms seized land from white farmers, and gave it to people who had no clue how to farm leading to famine. It's so bad, that they had to beg the farmer land owners to come back and manage the land. You would think that with a high quality educational system, at least in South Africa, there would be an understanding of the necessity to keep it maintained and the need to anti-corruption measures, but, as in Zimbabwe, corruption from the ANC and cronyism under Mugabe has lead to its downfall.

Regrettably in our own country, we have seen that when white populations left urban centers after the violence of the 60's and early 70s, the cities decayed. It's only in recent years, when whites moved back into the cities, gentrified and built-up a larger tax base that we saw cities start to prosper again.

Ahh yes, white folks are the saviors of humanity and therefore superior to black people.

I get what you're trying to eloquently say by way of using history. Corruption is race blind and many in cities have no economic prospects due to the lingering effects of slavery and Jim Crow. But I see you.

Jamaica and Singapore gained independence at roughly the same time from the British Empire, but with very different demographics. Without the yoke of white oppression, each former colony had very different results. One has a thriving economy with a first world living standard and low rates of violence, the other does not. Both were under British rule for roughly the same span of time, why are the results completely the opposite?

Certain cultures are more susceptible to corruption than others. For example, corruption in Japan is relatively low because they have a high social trust society. Corruption in China is relatively high because they have a low trust society.

Many middle class White and AA left urban centers. We knew families of both who left Philadelphia, Newark, Baltimore. Also happened in DC. The first 3 cities had a solid industrial base from light industry to heavy industry. Those 3 cities have pockets of gentrification. They are not prospering. They had strong networks of parochial schools which are gradually collapsing/closing. That is beyond the cheap labor supplied by nuns.

Sure Underarmour has corporate in Baltimore - see the splash from the waterfront. But where's the stuff made? Not anywhere near Baltimore even though north American sales are over 70% of the market. https://www.vault.com/company-profiles/general-consumer-products/under-armour-inc#:~:text=Almost%20all%20of%20Under%20Armour%27s,Jordan%2C%20Vietnam%2C%20and%20Malaysia.

Globalism. This is the AAP forum. That Keyes Gamarra academy idea should not pass but rather should become a HS course at all schools incorporating history/economics/public policy. Furthermore FCPS has been delinquent in the basics and should be producing more k-12 that get associates and BS in stem fields.

Seems like some people don't understand why East Asians worry about education so much.

The competition in China is so high that even to get into a decent middle school (7th grade up) is something that the parents start pondering and instilling into their children somewhere in the 3rd grade (sometimes, in the kindergarten). To get into a decent university (and I am NOT talking about Tsinghua or Peking unis) is even more challenging, and the grueling process of preparation begins somewhere in the 7th grade.

Not the PP and not racist. However, if I moved to China, clearly the existing culture in China is the "Chinese culture", not what I want to change it to. I can't say "my Chinese Culture" is to do what I do. That's a really odd statement.

That isn't racism. Please learn what racism is. Just because someone doesn't want to adopt to your culture doesn't make them racist.
