1 to 10, how furious would you be if your husband drove home drunk after golfing?

In addition, would you demand he cease all alcohol moving forward, for a specific period of time, or not at all? Would your reaction change if he's genuinely not a big drinker and you're 100% certain this was an isolated lapse?

10/10. If he’s not a drinker and it was some freak oversight I wouldn’t insist on no alcohol but I would insist on zero driving after any alcohol at all since he’s a numpty who can’t do math or tell time apparently.

Your spouse is an alcoholic. Don't minimize or enable it. If he's that far gone to noticeably drive home drunk after golfing, he's probably been engaged in excessive drinking coupled with dangerous behavior for many years.

There's nothing you can do other than prepare to end the marriage for your own safety and peace of mind. You can't make him stop drinking. In fact up to now you've probably enabled it If you don't want to leave the marriage then call the police and report him for drunk driving and let him deal with the consequences.

He could have killed someone. You have an obligation to stop him.

I’d be furious. What if he killer someone while drunk?

10/10 as well. I would make him call me before he gets in the car after any social event for the foreseeable future until I feel like I can trust him again. Totally unacceptable, dangerous not just to himself but to people everywhere.

11. Especially in the age of Uber there is NEVER a reason to drive drunk. I would not require ceasing alcohol, just driving after having ANY. Even one sip. Get a breathalyzer installed on the car

"Did you remember to buy milk? No? Well go back! Cmon!"

It's not a big deal OP unless he was speeding along on a freeway. You said yourself it's a rare incident.

How drunk was he? About .08? .15?

LMAO, you'd hate living anywhere south of the border, or even in the USA pre-2010s. Everyone had liquid lunches at work or the local pub or restaurant.

I would be 10/10 but non alcoholics do drive drink sometimes! (Not me-not a drinker and literally won’t drive after a single drink.)

I have no idea if her husband is an alcoholic or not but this is bad judgement and idiocy (along with depraved indifference to the safety of other drivers) that may or may not be accompanied by alcoholism.

I would be so upset.

The thing for me is that it’s not about the drinking, although that could or could not be a problem in your case.

It’s being too stupid not to uber home.

Some anti-alcohol propaganda going on in this thread it's obvious.
Puritanical religious-fueled prohibitionists are still around in this day and age.

Over many years of marriage I’ve faced this a couple of times. I didn’t yell at him but I told him how disappointed I was, the risk he was taking on himself and others. Just yesterday he was going to golf in the afternoon and then have dinner an hour away with a large group of friends. I told him to be careful and be safe. He got home at around 10pm and he was in very good shape. I always worry but he’s never arrived home drunk though I know he’d been drinking.

I have no idea how to gauge it in that way. Confident he was over the 0.08 limit but he was not like fall down drunk or blackout like a frat boy. He came home and was being loud in the kitchen making something to eat. It was obvious he was drunk. After eating, he immediately fell asleep for the night. It was only 7pm. 100% drunk.
