HUD got our email, we’re staying fully open next week. Anyone else?

HUD didn’t use its whole budget. They’re funded to Oct 7. Treasury had its meeting today. We’ll start shutdown procedures tomorrow.

EPA is open until 10/7.

This! I work in cybersecurity and the youngest person on my team is 39. We have a hard time recruiting because private industry is much easier for cyber and it pays twice as much. Half my team are boomers delaying retirement.

These fed people don't know anything about cybersecurity. Contractors do all the work. That's why they delay retirement because why kill the golden goose?

Sweet summer child.

Who directs the contractors and gives them funds? (And who -- and the answer is you -- would complain if feds were paid higher and brought more talent in house?)

Spoiler alert: he is worth millions.

I think you buried the lead

Fed worker should expect no sympathy because so many workers in America have suffered layoffs, pay cuts, and bankrupt pensions… because of his party’s leadership.

I mean yeah, the GOP certainly isn't looking out for the little guy. He just said it out loud.

The democrats will agree to $60b for border improvements, and a policy change requiring faster deportations in a last minute plea to keep the federal government open. McCarthy is pushing for more spending cuts which Democrats will likely agree to. The whole thing will be worked on on Saturday afternoon. Shutdown seems very unlikely.

I really hope that is the case. It sounds plausible to me, given that some Senate Democrats want border improvements. If that’s the case, the House wingnuts will come around. Biden should too, given that most voters believe his border policy is a failure. Down to the wire? Yeah, maybe. But if this is the case it sounds very promising.

What is this deal, though? A CR? The house doesn't have 12 budgets ready to go, obvs.

Hardliners plot to replace McCarthy with one of his deputies as shutdown looms

If they do, this will be a long one. But I'm glad McCarthy is optimistic *eyeroll*

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) indicated that he will hold up the Senate CR unless the $6 billion for Ukraine is removed. That suggests that he can delay the matter until Sunday (if not a bit later).

If McCarthy is removed, he should just switch parties, along with a few other Republicans.

State and USAID are saying they’re staying open for weeks.

It’s bury the lede. Not lead.

That’s not how I read the USAID guidance today. However, they have stayed open in the past. Using multi-year forward funding.

I made a large preschool tuition payment earlier this month and plan to submit to FSAFeds once I receive the receipt in the mail. Will FSAFed reimburse during the shutdown?

This payment is equal to a big chunk of my dependent care account for the year and will make ends meet if there's an extended shut down.

fsafeds will reimburse for whatever has already been contributed to the account, but not over.
