Official Government Shutdown 2023 Thread

We had our town hall today and our director does not sound hopeful. We were presented with resources for if the shutdown goes on longer than a couple weeks and people run out of $$

But that same article says:

Final passage on the Senate’s stopgap resolution, however, will likely be stalled by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who opposes any new funds for Ukraine and who said on Thursday that he would object to moving the bill forward through a process known as unanimous consent. Without Paul’s support, senators would be forced to hold a full vote on the bill, slowing down the process even as the clock ticks closer to Sunday, when government funding will run out.

And says that the House won't be able to pass anything with Ukraine funding attached, which will still be a part of the Senate resolution.

I don't know. I'm military so I'd love them to come to a consensus and get this done so I get my October 15 paycheck, but I don't think there's much hope in that article. Maybe some of the previous posters that indicated Biden would step in and make another deal are right. I hope so.

If the only difference is funding for Ukraine, that's a hell of a hill to die on for Democrats. Biden has negotiated away bigger priorities than that

That’s not the only difference. The House Republicans still haven’t even decided what they want.

Are state governments and county offices impacted by the shutdown? We have property tax deadline approaching so wondering what will happen to that.

Also, even if it was the only difference it wouldn't be "a hill to die on for Democrats," it would be the Republicans hill to die on. You don't get to hold the government hostage with your demands and claim it's the other side's fault for not capitulating.

Maga Rep says he'll still take his pay because he is not independently wealthy, but that fed workers should expect no sympathy.

Spoiler alert: he is worth millions.

I think you buried the lead

Fed worker should expect no sympathy because so many workers in America have suffered layoffs, pay cuts, and bankrupt pensions… because of his party’s leadership.
