They probably are recruiting from teams within 100 miles, such as Looneys, who are not playing WSYL, and from the three Black Ops programs for players that were overlooked, or who might prefer Monument to get more playing time. Once those ponds have been fished dry, they will fill remaining spots with kids from outside programs who already tried out, or in the case of U13, pull up from their own 2027 team.

I have no inside info but that is my take on what they are doing.

I completely agree, with this though process. Unfortunately because Black Ops spread out the positions among the three teams, there was a lot of talent not picked up.

Wrong..all the talent was picked up.

Don’t underestimate ML, rarely do they lay a goose egg.

Look at all the good Madlax teams. Could DC dogs even field a team with a DOB restriction?

The Dogs might be able to squeeze out 10. The Monuments also shows the same issue with the 14 and 13u's. Their 25's and 26's have about 28 players on the roster but they can't field a full roster. It seems particularly pronounced on the 26's. But they aren't breaking any rules when it comes to class based leagues and tournaments. The roster makeup of every elite HoCo team has a similar profile.

Except when ML illegally 'guests' players in that aren't on their roster and are clearly not in the correct grade even. Seem to recall that they had to forfeit a championship for that

I am not a MadLax cool aid drinker, but I do like to check facts, and your facts misleading. MadLax DMV (B level) teams have been DQ'd twice in recent memory, once in a 2019 HoCo playoff game and once in a 2018 summer tournament, for kids playing down a grade. In both instances they had a combined B team of two grades (2025 plus 2026) that MadLax chose to play down in 2026, rather than in 2025 like they should have. MadLax used to have enough kids for two kids in every grade, but now numbers are down, so they have enough leftover players for about half a team in each grade. So they have three options - turn the players away and have just one team per grade; play a combined team in the upper grade level, like they should, but they would get killed; or play down and risk an occasional DQ. They are running a business so you can guess what they choose.

But to my knowledge, their Capital teams and National teams (such as Monuments) have always been legal from a roster perspective. Their business depends on gaudy national rankings and top tournaments, and they would not risk a DQ for these teams. They do stack their teams like crazy with holdbacks, re-classes, and flying kids in from around the country. But as a prior poster said, that is legal in the grade based world of travel lacrosse. I have never heard of a Capital or National team being caught with over-grade kids, or with kids not properly registered with MadLax and rostered with the appropriate tournament.

If I am wrong and somebody knows of an example of roster cheating on a MadLax Capital or National team, let's hear it!

The 2027 team double rostered players in a fall tournament. Some played on both teams as reported by Madlax parents on a different thread. That's only 6th grade in a fall pandemic tournament but that's an example.

It was probably a Madlax tournament. They would say it was ok as they made the rules. WSYL exposes teams like Madlax. All youth sports should be age based.

WSYL is a one time event. Everyone will forget by next year which team did what. ML will continue to dominate the club team rankings well into the future.

Given all the corporate sponsors for the WSYL I don't think its going away anytime soon. Maybe they issue more waivers and flop back into the lazy reclass ways, but I definitely don't think WSYL is going away anytime soon.

WSYL has been around since 2015 and survived last year's COVID cancellation, it will be around for awhile. However, I do agree that most people will have short memories and will forget who did what as these kids (at least the 14U) will start hitting the college recruiting showcase circuit shortly thereafter.

WSYL should keep the tournament on the east coast. I think there is going to be more teams participating than past years, should be a very competitive regional. I think monument places in top four and will move on to the next round. Top three teams will be towerman, tigers and hawks.

No way. Black Ops has the best of that 25 lass from NL, DCE, VLC and a couple of local studs from B'more clubs. So, yeah, agree on at least 2 of the 3 other teams you mentioned, but no way since ML is still struggling to id kids are they in a good spot here. Black Ops is really going to surprise folks.

Any word if Madlax is having another Monument Tryout this weekend like originally planned?
