Madlax Monument Team

[guardian] How legit is the Madlax tryout for their new World Series of Lacrosse DMV team? Will it be all Madlax Capital and National kids? Simply a money grab?

Best players in the region get to play in WSYL with it being local in Maryland in 2021. Madlax wants to win so will take best players and feature them in social media. What do you have to lose? Are there other local teams competing? DC express, Hawks, Crabs, VLC? They should field teams too.

Is Madlax Monument a bust? They still trying to field a team?

Probably a money grab but Madlax always wants to win so talent will win out. Players have to live within 100 miles so won't be all their National players (unless they "move" into the area).

To the PP asking if they were a bust, what made you say that?

DCE, NL, and VLC forming Black Ops for WSYL teams so the race is on for the best players in the region!

so let me get this straight.... The World Series of Lacrosse is going to have 2 teams from the DC area?

This just looks stupid....

Club coaches should just form one team all together.

This is an age based event most teams can’t field a team of correct age players. They need to combine three to four clubs to find enough kids who meet the age cut off

Last year's finals consisted of 2 teams from Long Island so it's not crazy to have 2 teams from the DMV playing.

It will be very interesting to see who MadLax can get for these teams.

The best players on the three Black Ops teams (BLC, VLC, NL) will not be available to ML, but at some positions Black Ops will have a surplus, so there will be some decent players that do not make Black Ops and can get picked up by Monument. And theoretically Monument could pick up a player or two from second tier clubs like Top Caliber, Cavalier, etc.

Of course MadLax can bump up its 2025 and 2026 kids who are too old for their grade, and therefore ineligible for their regular team. The 2026 holdbacks can play Monument 2025, and there are probably some 2027s (holdbacks, or kids who want to play up) who they can pull up for 2026 Monument team. My prediction is that a high percentage of players who end up on Monument will be from within MadLax, due to the 100 mile rule, and the fact that the best players at these ages are on one of those four teams (VLC, BLC, NL, ML).

Other than Madlax and this Black Ops team, are there any other DMV clubs holding tryouts for WSYL?

Coaching staff for Black Ops U13 will be Stellar. If your son has any interest in playing on Eye St they should try out.

I agree kids should try out for this team. The top players from these clubs may. It be trying out due to the age cut off of WSYL. It will be telling about the roster make up for each club.

It's not a question of other DMV clubs holding tryouts, it's a question of who is going to enter the regional qualifiers. The DC/Balt area's interest lessened over the years because the clubs needed to have a strict age group qualifying team and a class based team. It became too much operationally and it also exposed how many players were born prior to 9/1. Recently, only a couple of lower division HoCo teams even bothered going to the qualifiers. The NY teams borrowed players in the past but not to this extent of forming multi-club all star teams strictly to compete in what was supposed to be a club and team event.

Since it is local this year it seems that there is more interest from previous years. New York teams have won every year.
