Definitely UVA then. My DC had a 1520 and 4.39 GPA and didn't get into UVA. Incredibly frustrating.

Wow. I'd be annoyed too if my kid with those states didn't get into our in state flagship.

No. My kid wasn’t interested in uva but I think it’s definitely overrated in nova.

Where did your kid end up going?

Berkeley.

Yuck. I hate Berkeley. Liberal cesspool.

I think UVA is a very good school but I would agree overrated in DC metro because 1) there is a big obsession with admission to UVA in the DCUM orbit (that doesn't seem nearly so strong outside of it) and 2) the data I have seen suggests it doesn't really make that much different in outcomes for lifetime earnings or career satisfaction between UVA and other likely alternatives. For initial earnings, at least, the choice of major is much more important.

Virginia Tech is also a state flagship.

When we moved to NoVA from overseas, I was so confused by all these people behaving like Virginia Tech was something special. It's literally completely unknown outside of VA.

I love how the OP keeps posting NYU and UVA over and over. This is personal people! Her kid really didn’t get into thosev2 schools. Or didn’t get into UVA and she can’t afford NYU

-+1. But 75th percentile of students attending last year had a 4.49. From Nova you really have to be over that mark.

Duke. Spoiled rich kids tutored to the test. In real life, meh, meh, meh.

My in-laws from London didn't know a single college in Virginia. So not unique to Virginia Tech. But think about it -- I knew Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, perhaps St. Andrews due to Prince William, maybe a few others from the entirety of the UK.
