I sincerely doubt the HOS begged you to stay. If they did, it's the kind of private school you should have never enrolled your child in to begin with.

Well it’s one of the ones people on here talk about A LOT.

This person is a fake.

The “monthly payment plan” was the first tip. The constant reference to “privates” was another. The “it’s one they talk about on here.A lot[]” was the other. Just an angry person venting while making up things. Sad.

Are you serious? You've never heard of paying tuition in installments? You're a joke. You're mad that the veil has been pulled off of the private school scam - they aren't places where you get a better education - they are places where rich snobs hide from poor people and receive an average at best education with smaller classes so your kids *feel* smart because the teacher is forced to listen to your dumb awkward kids drone on and on. Public school kids are smarter, adjust better to different environments and are better socially adjusted. Now that I've seen the inside, I'll never think otherwise. The secret's out!

We're not making our choices for schooling based on how much it costs. I know it is a hard concept to grasp for a lot of people who choose public but our family and those of our friends and family are choosing the private schools we choose because of our perception of benefits that make it worth the cost.

The fact that a public school system is reopening does not make even one iota of a difference for our family. And I can tell you point blank that the three private schools in which our children are enrolled won't even blink when MCPS or some other system reopens. It will not make a difference in their student population at all.

This. +1.

I disagree because my kids are learning or retaining well with virtual teaching and computer assignments. At their ages this is a waste and I’d like to redirect our $90k to homeschooling. And since we haven’t been happy or impressed the last two years, no need to return ever.

Are not learning or retaining well.

Bye bye faker!

Yeah, I thought they were real until the third hysterical "the secret's out" email. Fakedy fake. Or crazy. But fake or crazy is my final analysis.

I wouldn't assume too much. I've emailed a bit with several new parents from MCPS who enrolled their children at our private this fall and they sound exactly like this.

OP seems rather impulsive and rash.

The question she should be asking herself is:

Which DL do I prefer, and if it’s the private one, is it worth the money?

Because I guarantee that most kids aren’t returning to school any time soon.

None of the DLs being offered are worth the money.

Privates need to get back in person. That is what they know how to do and they should figure out how to do it. They have the resources.

Debbie downer speculator.

Went to my GP for my flu shot and he’s been to tons of virtual conferences. Flu season in latAm was very mild. Zero deaths in Argentina. And with niL travel or illegal immigration from the Southern Hemisphere to the northern these days, It won’t be brought up here rapidly like usual.

FYI the four strains in this years shot are not from last Dec-Feb flu season here, it’s always from the Southern Hemisphere’s winter flu season strains from August. It was record low in numbers due to social distancing.

As usual mass media won’t cover it, doesn’t fit the apocalypse narrative.

Next excuse?

Myopic much? The point is that with the winter comes other respiratory illnesses and symptoms that are the same as those of COVID. Cold and arid weather? Dry nasal passages, sinus infections/congestion, sneezing, coughing (from post-nasal drip), and sometimes a mild fever. Colds? Congestion, headaches, loss of taste/smell. Influenza? Congesion, high temperatures, coughing, GI distress. You are so focused on furthering your own narrow point of view that you miss the forest from the trees.

Hence the >98% negative test rate.

Not in jurisdictions such as Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Alexandria city, Prince George's County, or Prince William County, where many students from DC private schools live.

This might be the best argument for public schools on this thread! Was that your point, PP?

Right. No private DL is worth the money.

Since you’ve never experienced this, how would you know?

^^ I have which is why I made the comment. Despite how many will vehemently defend this position, it’s never worth it to pay $30-50k for your kid to stare at a computer screen for 6 hours a day while their teachers sit on their couches with their fuzzy slippers on.

I guess the OP hasn't been on the MCPS thread lately. DL classes are still a joke and taught to the lowest common denominator. One recently posted about a second grader who is learning nothing...complaining it is stuff he learned in kindergarten. My son was reading in K. I will bet there are plenty of elementary school students at a standstill because of DL.

Another bit of intel I got lately is I rant into my neighbor who is a 4th grade teacher. She said there are kids in her class who are pre-readers. Imagine your advanced kid in a class with pre-readers. What a mess.

It would be the same in person too. Very little differentiation in those grades.

In person, my DC's teacher handled this exact situation in our DC private delicately in 1st grade and a little in 2nd grade. In person. She could not do this remotely. She also did not neglect the advanced readers while supporting the emerging reader.

I wonder if you are a younger teacher, PP. You are grossly underestimating the abilities of in-person teachers at privates in our area. What the good ones do will not translate online. Only strong students who do not need a live teacher to learn benefit from DL. That is only a few of them.
