No. Your kid’s spot was stolen by an unqualified white student whose parents likely cheated, bribed or threatened legal action to get that kid in.

There are zero white kids in enrichment in DCs grade.

Cool story bro.

Cool and true. Apparently, the white kids are all brainless idiots.

They do that on purpose to avoid the white Karens and Kens. If no white kids are accepted, they can avoid the drama.

Or it just erupts into this whole TJ lottery dumpster fire when not enough non-Asian kids are accepted.

Exactly, acceptance should be based on merit and intelligence only. I am positive that nonAsian kids are being blatantly overlooked for some reason though? Why? There is no logical reason.

Been this way for years now. Many Asians are notoriously good test takers, as a result of rigorous compulsive prepping. You want to compete, you need to pay to play. Become an expert test taking machine.

TJ is getting away from "teach to the test" for good reason.

Asian students are not just good test takers (that is like saying blacks are just good runners). Asians are good students and study diligently.

But the test scores seem to still be the determining factor most times. The Asians have higher test scores for whatever reason. My guess is they prep more. They will continue to compulsively prep and this will remain, until everyone else gets the memo and decides to follow suit.

It’s not only Asians though, do you think that students of other races don’t work hard and study? I am not Asian, I worked my butt off in HS and college, studying, sometimes all night, it wasn’t possible to study anymore than I did, I did this because I wanted to succeed, not because my parents made me. I never took a prep class of any kind. Many nonAsians are doing the same today, but seem to be lagging behind for some reason.

Asian parent here, a relative new comer to the US and our school district (not in the DMV) doesn't have test-in schools so I guess I don't really have a stake in this, but I'm intrigued by this discussion about 'leveling the playing field' so I've been following similar topics for a while.
Can someone explain why or how this idea of test prepping = cheating came about?
From the other threads (plus other sources I've read) it seems like this idea doesn't exist for sports or the arts.
I've also noticed that white parents tend to gravitate towards spending money on writing tutors/ writing camps or supplementing in other enrichment activities (ex. performing arts) compared to Asian parents.
So if prepping for say math is considered to be unfair and cheating, then I wonder why prepping for writing good essays isn't also considered to be cheating?
If money were the discriminatory factor, then shouldn't all private school students (not on financial aid) be considered to be cheating, as they have used their financial privilege to 'game the system'?

What is it with only standardized test prep that gets the reputation of cheating, when other disciplines that require comparable amounts of resources (money, time, effort) are never touched on in the same way?

We are not supposed to get into intelligence on this board.

Ah, but what are many Asians doing when the nonAsians are practicing a sport and traveling for sport? I think many nonAsians do take sports way too seriously, to their detriment. It’s wasted time for many.

No, it can all be viewed as a form of cheating. This is our society unfortunately, the lesser privileged kids, regardless of race, are screwed.

Not to gain unfair advantage but to counter racial discrimination like the actions of fcps’s new proposal or blatant discrimination against Asians in college admissions.

+1 bar is set much higher for Asian Americans. As my white DH says, "Asian Americans are a victim of their own success".

Are blanket statements about all White people based on the Varsity Blues scandal accepted? NO

Are blanket statements about Muslims based on anything accepted? NO

Are blanket statements about Black people based on anything accepted? NO

But blanket statements, racism and xenophobia as well as legal institutional racism against Asians are readily accepted, encouraged and green-lighted in our society.

Welcome to the wonderful country you immigrated to!

Actually, you're wrong about this. Blanket statements are almost always used in discussions about Muslims and Blacks. So, welcome to our world Asians.

My experience with my ES school child, the bar is the same, if not higher, for others. There is absolutely nothing extraordinary about the Asian children in my DC’s class, except they do play piano. It’s a pervasive thing though, we all assume the Asians are geniuses. I don’t find that to be accurate though.

This is like saying why is regular PE time not enough to those kids who can play at varsity level sports.

+1 Yes, this is true. When are the lotteries going to begin for sports?
