Completely polarized politically - can we last?

Because you are a racist bigot it you still support Trump. This is not up for debate.

I did't like GW Bush, but I certainly didn't lose such massive respect for people who supported him. We didn't agree. There was room for debate.

There is NO room for debate with Trump. He is destroying America. If you can't see it, you are not paying attention.

Absolutely 100% the truth.

It’s like me being with a Nazi who loves dear Fuhrer. We can’t talk about the weather. We both think each other is destroying our country.

A new friend proudly showed me a picture of her DH with Trump. To me it’s like “look, I took a picture with Hitler! How exciting!”

I live in the South and being surrounded by trumpists is becoming unbearable.

Hitler? Really? That’s insane.

It's really not pp, if you are a good student of history and understand the entirety of Hitler's story and if you watch Trump closely. Unfortunately, I think many have falsely cried NAzi and Hitler in the past to those whose political views they didn't like, and now that we have a real danger, the warnings are not being taken seriously.. PP is not exaggerating when she compares Trump to Hitler.

Marrying a Trumper is like being married to the BKT killer.

You equate a trump supporter to a serial killer?

See, it’s the liberal way or the highway! Typical.

Crazy much? And why Trump may win again. Vote for your guy and let others do the same without going off the deep end.

I can't stand Trump since I can't see pass his character. But his supporters can, instead they focus on economy, small town recovery, immigration reform, pro-life, etc - ideals that matter to them. Doesn't make them hateful, just different view point.

New poster to this thread, but +1 to the above. I’m not a Trump supporter either, didn’t vote for him, but the attitudes by the modern left and in this thread are appalling. The intolerance is absolutely astounding.

If you’re considering divorce after 22 years due to differing political views, your DH is not the problem, and is better off without you.

Can you explain how supporting white supremacists is a political view?

+1. How is intolerance for intolerance bad? Are people really trying to argue that hatred, racism, and misogyny are things anyone should tolerate? That's a disgusting attitude. We are on the brink of fascism. Make no mistake, if Trump "wins" "again" America is no longer a democracy.

I jut have to believe these people are trolls. No one in the right mind would believe we should tolerate racism as just another political view.

Supporting a president so racist, selfish, and morally bankrupt that he celebrates violence, intentionally stirs up hatred (racial and otherwise), causes more people to suffer and die from COVID because he thinks it's what's best for him politically, and is attempting to undermine democratic elections and the peaceful transfer of power is a moral issue-- there's no way to be a good person and support that.

I'm going to pick on you a little, but I believe it's an important distinction to make. Conservative does not equal Trump supporter. There are many, many people that are Conservative and want nothing to do with Trump the recognize the evil he is doing.

We can't allow people to hide behind conservatism and twist Trumpism into just another political view. When we do this we allow the lie to continue, that they are being persecuted for Conservative beliefs when that is completely untrue.

PP doesn't have a valid concern. PP is engaging in whataoboutism, similar to how people say well women rape too when the discussion is about a male rapist who got off for his crimes.

It has been said multiple times that people are against Trump because of his racism.

Trump is a racist, that is a fact. Trump supports white supremacy that is a fact.

If you are not a racist, if you are not a white supremacist, why would you support a person who does? Why are you allowing a man to forever associate these things with the GOP and Conservatism?

I am a conservative who hates Trump and my boyfriend is a conservative who doesn't really seem to care? He voted for Trump last time and says he won't be voting for Trump again in 2020 but he just can't pull the lever for Biden. It really irritates me. It's like c'mon, I know you know how bad Trump is for this country. He claims he would vote for Biden but that Biden hasn't earned his vote and that just saying "I'm not Trump!" isn't enough to win over the conservatives. (I'm not convinced, because I'm a conservative who would vote for a dog over Trump)

Sometimes he also says things that give me pause like "Idk what the big deal with Q Anon is, they're just the internet version of drunk uncles spewing conspiracy theories" or "people should be allowed to protest masks, even if I think it's important to wear them." If you met my boyfriend, you wouldn't even know he's conservative, that's how middle of the road he seems, but he's more sympathetic to the Trump supporters than I would like. I'm just glad his super far right friends haven't gotten to him; one of them texted him the other night about how Kyle Rittenhouse was acting in self-defense and my bf was like ummmm idk about that, he probably shouldn't have been there in the first place and we need to wait for more information.

The only thing that's been really hard for us these last few months is the renaming of things. As a southern conservative, I am all for tearing down statues of confederate generals/politicians, it is such a simple thing to do that would mean so much to so many POC but my bf thinks it's unnecessary and overly PC. I recently said the Confederacy was treasonous and he trotted out the old "Now hold on, slavery is bad but back then people pledged allegiance to their state, not the United States, they didn't have the federal system we have now." It was truly the dumbest argument I ever heard (he's not even southern...like, I should be the one making this dumbass argument and I'm not lol) and I told him so. Like op mentioned in her post, my bf is extremely well-educated and is smarter than the average American, so I'm not sure why he makes these arguments. It's very odd.

That is insane. There is no tax cut, pro life judge, or whatever you see trump doing to prevent the "Democratic Party vision of the future" that is worth putting kids in cages, fomenting inciting racial violence, letting our daughters see a leader who openly talks about grabbing women by the pussy, letting Russia put bounties on American soldiers and doing/saying NOTHING about it, choosing to ignore a deadly virus for months on end, etc. etc. etc."

I'm not liberal, and frankly I think liberals bear a lot of the blame for the current climate in that the rhetoric about GWB and Romney was so bad, divisive, he's Hitler-esque that when the fascist leader actually showed up there was nowhere left to escalate to.

Crazy weirdos exist on both ends of the spectrum. The antifa idiots rioting around the country have been showing us their backside for the past few years.

Again you are deflecting and not answering the question.

There were many GOP candidates in 2016, that would have supported your values, why didn't you back them? Why didn't you back WEld when he wanted to primary Trump or someone else? There have been many, many opportuinties to get behind a conservative candiate and rid yourselves of a person that supports racism, you have not. There's ean entire movement of socially, and financially Conservative people, people who always vote Republican who are against Trump, why have you not promoted them? Why have you not pushed Trump put, and made it clear thar racism is not a part of Conservatism. If you don't want to be considered a racist, it seems the thing to do is force out the racism and back someone else.

So why haven't you done this?

Couldn't agree more. The Republican party IS the trump party (plus Mitt Romney) at this point. Complete spineless lack of leadership and it makes me sick to have ever supported it. I'll take literally any policy position over that.

I agree with you on the bold, I had said in the past that people should be careful of using that comparison because when we have a real problem as we do now no one would listen. Boy who cried wolf.
But the blame is all on liberals. Republicans have a huge responsibility in this, for all the reasons you listed about Trump they should not want anything to do with him. He is poisoning their party. The fact that they haven't rallied together to force him out, and put forth a Conservative Republican who does not incite racial violance and promote misogyny is the problem.
