No cause for panic. Wash hands.

No by all means we should cease doing anything and crash the economy to avoid a virus no worse than an nasty cold for most people

Everyone who is literally canceling all possible plans and forgoing regular activity! There’s a reason the markets crashed this week

Nope.

What does "Nope" mean? Is it "No way would I go."? or "No need to cancel."?

It means no.

Because do you want to be quarantined or hospitalize with children in Mexico.

Mexico traveler here (I was not the one who asked for clarification on “nope.”) On what basis would you assume we would end up quarantined? We aren’t coming from, or going to, a place with an outbreak.

NP and we also have a trip with children to Mexico planned. We are likely postponing. There isn’t a known outbreak now but things are changing so quickly. We go frequently to Mexico and have been to doctors there when we have been sick. It has been fine for regular illness but if something should happen we don’t want to risk be quarantined locally. Also, we always meet a lot of people from all over the world when we visit. It is a popular vacation destination for people who live in Europe and other countries. The risk is too high right now since we would be taking our children.

No who told you that it’s no worse than a nasty cold? Surely not the 3000+ people who have died. Turn off Fox News.

We also live in a city with lots of international travelers and visitors. I’m sorry, any illusion you’re able to avoid exposure is just silly. You will get it or not. Wash your hands. Don’t go to the places that it’s banned to go right now. That’s about all any of us can do.

The problem with this line of thinking is it’s individually centered. IOW, typically American.

While it may be like a bad cold for you so you will continue with your normal activities- work, shopping, parties, travel, school, etc. You will continue to pass this onto to many more people. People who may not fare a lucky as you or perhaps their kids may not or their parents may not.

You may survive barely scathed, yet you may have contributed to the deaths and/or very serious illnesses of others because of your lack of precautions.

That’s why containment is so important. It’s ridiculously difficult to give up our freedoms temporarily for the greater good of our communities but it’s the only proven method that has worked so far. We have no medications for it, no vaccine for it. We don’t have hospital resources for it.

Look at Washington state right now. They bought a motel to provide a make shift hospital. Has that ever happened because of something “no worse than a nasty cold”?

I will continue to travel domestically but not abroad, mainly because of quarantine fears.
I would not want to be stranded abroad should something happen.
Practicing vigilant hand washing and staying home if sick is about the best any of us can do.
We are still traveling to FL for my MIL’s 70th bday this week.
Will not travel to Caribbean in April.

So, like I said, some of you want everyone to cease activity and stay home forever. I’m glad “normal activities” like work are optional for you. It’s not for some of us.

Disney in April. At this point we are still going.

I have travel insurance to only cover some of my cost and 5000 loss.

2 (7 and 11) kids and my husband. I’m only worried about my kids.

Take the loss or wait and see?

I wouldn’t go to Rome now, but maybe by May. I think it’s too early to say.

Disney is germy 24/7. Purell your hands after each ride and immediately before you eat.

Disney provides free shuttles to/from urgent care if you stay at their resorts. It’s filled with sick Disney guests. Unfortunately, the nearest 24/7 cvs is 30 minutes away (by Uber).
