What was that scene?!? Alex and her constand, "Oh my GOD!! Oh my GOD!!!" I mean, I get that she was startled, but she so overacted in that scene. Bizarre. I like Jennifer Aniston, but get very tired of her constant verbal tics: sighing, mm-hmmming, addressing everyone as "honey" like she did in Friends, etc. It's beyond old.

I agree. Used to love her but I do find her mannerisms irritating now. She needs serious acting and diction instructors.

In the last episode, when Alex asks Chip and her assistant to go to her home studio and retrieve her device for the hack, and then she comes home and finds them en flagrante. And then they tell her it's been going on for a while but they didn't know how to tell her.

I actually thought the scene was funny because its as very much about how Alex has Main Character Syndrome and once she's over her initial shock, she's like "let's all go out together to celebrate! this is so great! how can I be involved!" and there's some great subtle face acting from Duplass and the actress playing the assistant where Chip is almost ready to agree because he has a grossly codependent relationship with Alex, but the assistant is like "haha, no."

I love Mark Duplass in that role so that sells a lot of the show for me. He is so, so good at playing this guy who is likable and loyal but also entirely careerist with almost no actual morals. To me the show is very much about how these people can say all they want about "journalism" or even entertainment but at the end of the day, they are entirely in it for themselves and their own egos. It rings extremely true to me.

Also, I would like to state that while Aniston's face looks effed up, it totally works for me because I also think that's EXACTLY what Alex would have done to her face at this point in her career. Which doesn't mean I think Aniston did it intentionally for the role, more that sometimes life imitates art imitates life, you know?

I like Chip too. What happened to his previous fiancee? I feel like I've forgotten so much due to the huge gap between seasons.

I agree that she is styled harshly on purpose for her character. I think especially the very dark hair contrasted with makeup that really highlights how pale she is, is intended to place her in opposition to both Alex and Bradley, who are both extremely soft around the edges in that very morning news, puff piece way. Laura is supposed to be more hard news, a "real journalist" who is more up front about her ruthlessness. She's Diane Sawyer/Connie Chung (with maybe a hint of Ann Currie based on the source material -- in any case all more severe, imposing, and newsy despite all doing long stints on morning shows) whereas Alex, in particular, is obviously patterned after Katie Couric (who is herself modeled after Barbara Walters), who coats even her most serious journalism in the powdered sugar of America's Sweetheart.

It's interesting to me that Bradley is now the nightly news anchor in this season, though her persona and appearance still scream morning show. And it also seems like everyone else is happy for her and rooting for her. Which is nice and all, but does not feel true to either the show or the traditions of network news, which dictate that the higher you rise, the harder people are gunning for you. Surely ONE of these people is looking to snake that job out from under her, right? This is not an industry that happily rewards middle aged women (and this one with less national news experience than anyone else) for simply being good at their jobs.

Yes, Bradley's "look" is not nightly news, especially the long blonde hair.

Can someone explain the hacking storyline? Did Corey actually have the network hacked to suit his ends, or was Cybil's email just a "happy" result of the hack?

If you look at JM I’m real life she’s very pale, especially in her recent interviews. It’s her coloring. Ya’ll are reading too much into their make up.

JA almost always has a spray or natural tan.

RS is also pale but not as much as JM.

He didn't cause the hack, it just happened.

But then he wanted to get rid of Cybil and used the cover of the hack to leak the racist email. If he'd leaked it without the hack, it would have been more transparent than he'd done it. With the hack and all these other internal docs getting hacked, no one would suspect him. We see him calling someone to make it happen at the end of the second episode.

I'm not sure how Stella knew her done it though. Maybe we're just supposed to recognize fnize it as an example of her being very savvy. Curious to find out her background with Hamm's character.
