Those who are fit with kids

Oh and let me be clear: I very often don’t WANT to get up off my ass and do the workout. Just yesterday I was sitting on the couch thinking “this is nice, maybe I should just sit on the couch some more.” Then I internally whined some more, got up, changed into my workout clothes, and worked out for 45 minutes. You just make yourself do it, it has to become non-negotiable.

Agree with all of the PP above. Once you change your mindset that working out is a luxury, that it’s optional, or that you are somehow being selfish (or as other posters hint- neglectful parents, lousy housekeepers, and bad workers), you’d be amazed but you will find the time.

I know that better health is associated with better economic means, but I doubt the posters on DCUM complaining they simply don’t have the time are any worse off economically than the posters on DCUM saying, yeah my life is jam packed but I still workout.

I am sure it is the home made cooking rather than working out. Sure that helps, but home made food is critical, imo.

Fitness encompasses several realms: weight, overall bone and joint and cardiovascular health and strength/endurance. Nutrition and diet are what will impact your *weight* the most. You will achieve a healthy weight through food and proper nutrition. Your body composition, ie, how good you look, and your overall joint and cardio health, are what exercise impacts the most. You can be a lower weight and look skinny and not well if you don’t also work out because you aren’t targeting your muscles and fat. You can also be thin and have poor cardiovascular and bone and joint health if you don’t work out.

So yes nutrition matters but only for the weight component. If you want to LOOK healthy/fit and actually BE healthy and fit internally, you do also need exercise.

Are you kidding, I would love to work out, go for a bike ride lift weights while listening to some jams, it would be awesome to have an hour a day to myself to do something fun like that. But the only hours I get one that would be feasible are between 12 and 4 AM, every other hour is spoken for by someone else in the family or my boss. Not to mention the disaster the houses, too bad they didn’t count as working out.

Kids are 2.5, 2.5, and 10 weeks. Every morning around 7:30 I put the baby in a carrier and the twins in a double stroller and walk 3 miles around my hilly neighborhood.

OP isn’t really looking for tips from SAHM. It isn’t like he can tell his boss ‘let’s take this meeting for a walk, everyone memorizes the slides right’

Well it’s BS to imply people are lazy, I don’t think I’ve sat on the couch ever since my daughter was born except to nurse and read to her.

I wouldn’t say you’re lazy, but maybe take control of your life? If YOU want to work out- make it happen. If you don’t, don’t. Busy parents who regularly work out make the conscious decision to do so and give up something else.

I know it’s easier said then done, so I’d suggest going back and re-reading some posts about how equally busy parents are able to do it. Especially the ones that stress flexibility and starting out small.

If you’re serious about it and not just here to argue, it’s great once it becomes incorporated in your life.

If this is true, you need Iyanna to fix your life. There’s no way in hell I would be living like this. Where is your DH!?!

Also, working out isn’t “something fun.” Something fun would be wandering through the mall or a boozy brunch with the girls. Putting a non-negotiable health maintenance appointment on my daily schedule is a must. Otherwise, at 43, I would be an obese diabetic with high blood pressure and working toward heart disease. It’s totally up to me to prevent those things from happening, so if that means I get less sleep during the week, clothes aren’t folded and put away, and dishes aren’t done every night, so be it.

I’m one of the moms who does Jillian Michaels and other workouts at home. I do them on the floor of the guest room or in the hall while the baby sleeps.

What a bad mom. Everyone knows it’s unacceptable to sleep more than 4 hours a night or do literally ANYTHING before every menial household task an chore has been completed !! God, you probably even have the temerity to sit on your couch sometimes.
