She has NEVER had hives before. I can not figure what is going on. The doctor said that if it was a food allergy, the hives would be immediate. These hives seem to like 2:00 am. Anyone know of hives that seem to be time-linked?

Allergic reactions happen pretty much right away. I think you should look into any foods she ate in the hours prior to the hives.

I wanted to chime in that if an allergic reaction they would be right away, not days later.

Hi There I wanted to let you know that my daughter had the same exact thing happen...

From what I have read your body produces a chemical during the day that keeps the hives at bay. In the evening your body starts going into a state of rest and produces less of this chemical causes the hives to appear. I have had hives for 5 weeks since receiving the H1N1 shot. I'm seeing an allergist on Jan 2. and will post their comments.

No other allergies to anything before and three weeks ago got the flu shot. Nobody could tell me anything. Also when he woke up this morning he was covered again with hives. Very scary. Anyone experiencing this? He was the only one who it happened to at the clinic I was at.

Hi There, I am 39 years old and have gotten hives over my entire body since I received the shot almost 5 weeks ago. The only thing that stops me from scratching my skin uncontrollably is taking over the counter Benadryl. I just don't know what to do.

I am 36 years old and at 5 weeks too. I have been taking Zyrtec since I only have to take it once a day. (Plus they have it in a huge bottle at Costco) Benedryl stopped working for me. Lately I have noticed that some nights are not as bad as others. I am going to an allerigist on Jan 2nd to rule out allergies. I have never had any previously. Are your hives located on the same areas? Mine are generally on my legs and arms and a little on my stomach and back. I did end up in the ER about a week and a half after getting the vaccine due to almost being 100% covered - all over neck and face. Has not been on face/neck since then. I was on prenisone for 5 days and it lessened them, but they never went away.

My theory is the vaccine I received had a substance in it that was not supposed to be in it and therefore my body is reacting to it. The vaccine wears off in a year right? Maybe the hives will be gone by then? Ugh.

I am a healthy 41 yr old woman..I got the h1n1 vaccine on Thursday the 17th and broke out into hives by Saturday. I work at a University and went to their Health Services on Monday and they had me convinced that I had scabies even though there is absolutely no way I could have contracted them. It's nice to know I'm not alone.

My 8 year old son recieved the H1N1 shot about a month ago and has had the hives ever since, It always gets worse after he takes a bath. It's mainly on his stomach and back. I know it's not his wash, he only uses Dove and always has. I truly believe it's the H1N1 shot. He has been getting the regular flu shot fot the past 7 years and has never had a reaction.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I work in a large medical center where H1N1 immunization was mandatory. I have been experiencing worsening hives since this immunization. I did develop several hives following the seasonal vaccine, but since the H1N1 immunization I have waht seems to be chronic hives. Initially I thought it was an egg allergy, but now am unsure of that as I am avoiding any contact with eggs. I do know that with accidental contact to eggs they escalate.

I developed severe hives all over my body approximately 3.5 days after receiving the H1N1 shot on 19DEC.
These were controlled with 50mg Benadryl capsules which I chewed in order to get the antihistamine into my system ASAP (the taste of Benedryl is really bitter and foul).
The hives have continued coming back periodically until even this morning, 28DEC, although the hives have been diminishing in severity since the initial outbreak, and I took only 25mg Benedryl this morning.

I have had the seasonal flu shot regularly for many years and had such in early October and have never had an allergic reaction to such.
I also have never had an allergic reaction to any food and have not added anything new to my diet that I am aware of.
But what was bothersome, is that I started coming down with cold/flu symptoms (aches, cough, bronchitus) the day after the flu shot.
I believe this is simply coincidence, but wonder whether, at the time of the flu-shot, I was already infected with H1N1 and the H1N1 proteins in the shot triggered the allergic reaction. Therefore, I can't tell for sure whether the allergic reaction was from the H1N1 or whatever other cold/flu virus I picked up.
However, my bet is that the allergic reaction was to the H1N1 shot.

I did report this at the VAERS website.

The Dermatologist said I have a Histamine reaction to having H1N1 but I had received the injection so what is up with that? Only on my face by my eyes at first and itch! Oh my wanted to tear my eyes out. Heat makes it worse much worse and I have had 4 of these attacks in the last month. It appeared on my trunk as well but not at first.

A lot of times in children, as they get rid of a virus from their body, they will get hives. My daughter had the mist and 10 days later got hives. She hasn't had hives in 3 years. She has had them 3 times in the last 2 months. My friends son had a severe case of hives, and no history of shots. Could be all the new viruses out and about this year.

OMG!!! I finally found the cause for my poor dad's hives. He's 73 years old and he has been struggling with hives all over his body. It would flare up in spots and itch like hell.
He scratches them. He has his doctors baffled. They tried Elocon, Protopic, some stronger steroid cream, etc... and nothing seemed to help. Because I have a DD who has
eczema since she was 2, I was fully aware of how to eliminate allergens and tried to figure out what caused my dad's hives.

I asked him tonight when hives started to develop. We thought it was the tea he drank, but he has drank tea all his life, so tea is not likely to be the cause of the hives.
Then it just occurred to him that hives developed soon after his H1N1 vaccination. So I googled hives h1n1 vaccination and lo and behold, your discussion posts came up.
Now, at least there is something for us to work on now.

He had his H1N1 vaccination November 1 and the hives developed soon after. He went on an European cruise mid-November which apparently didn't help with the hives situation.
He came to visit me for Christmas and discovered that ice packs seem to help him sleep (alleviate the itches somewhat).

My sister has suggested that it's just dry skin so he should cover his body with Eucerin-type cream. But hives are still surfacing.

Are there any cure to this? It has been 2 months. It's just terrible for someone who loves swimming. He can't go into the pool without getting itchy afterwards.

What should we do now?

I am on week 7 of nightly hives and still having them. I went to the allergist and came back negative for everything. There were even able to do a scratch test w/ the H1N1 vaccine and it came back negative as well. The dr. said over time you can develop allergies to medication. I have epilepy and take dilantin every evening. I was going to start the process of switching medications in a week anyway, so we are hoping that once I am off the dilantin that maybe the hives will stop. It's my only hope at this point.

Anonymous wrote:I got horrible hives once in reaction to stress (first day back from maternity leave) and then they would reoccur due to cold - anywhere the winter air touched my exposed skin.

I would be unhappy if my kids got hives from a vaccine but I am not sure hives alone would be serious enough to make me NOT get a vaccine.

I hope I'm filling this out right. I have had hives now for about a month and I was thinking they were triggered due to stress, because my pressure has been up recently. I am also thinking that the H1N1 vaccine has broken down my immune system and now I have awful hives. Mine do not itch, but hurt if anything for a little bit and then they turn into bruises. I really hope the doctors start paying attention. They just look at me like I'm crazy and tell me to try to destress.

Hello,
I'm 33. I recently got hit with the stomach flu Thursday, (Jan. 14 2010) late night into midnight. Had severe bouts of diarrhea and nausea without any vomiting. Basically all the stomach flu symptoms without the vomiting. I started feeling better Monday and on Tuesday was able to resume my regular activities of exercise, work etc...(Note: I was still getting a bit of nausea here and there). Come Thursday (Jan. 21, 2010) morning about 5:30am I broke out into hives around my rear area, thighs, feet and arms. I thought maybe it was a reaction to something I ate, but I didn't really eat anything different from what I normaly eat. By the time I got to work they eventually went away. Then this morning (FRI, Jan 22, 2010) at the same time, 5:30am it started all over again, but even worse. I went to the store and bought some benadryl and it went away by the time I got to work.

I have seasonal allergies but have never experienced hives in my life before. I don't have any food allergies whatsoever.

Could it be possible I had the H1N1 virus? Note: I did not get the H1N1 vaccine.

I'm wondering if it is virus related? Anyone else gotten these hives due to a virus and not a vaccine.

Also, my wife and both kids have gotten the H1N1 vaccine and didn't have any hives aftwards.

any info will help.
