h1n1 shot reaction - hives

Anonymous
I received the H1N1 shot three weeks ago and the next morning had hives all over. I still have hives on my legs and stomach. I called three Dr.'s who said this could not be a reaction...must be a food allergy. I came to this site and guess what? Hives is a reaction. No one can tell me how long they will last. I contacted the Mayo Clinic and was told this could have challenged my immune system. Please respond if anyone has had hives for more than a month.

not from H1N (ddn't get the vaccination)

But I suffered from hives three times in my life; the worst case lasted 6 months during my last semester in college. no allergies and the MDs couldn't find a root cause

It was pure misery!

I've had them since mid-Nov. Started about 5 days after receiving the vaccine. So that makes me on month 3. I tested negative to all allergy tests including a scatch test w/ the h1n1 vaccine. Next step is blood work. They think it could be my thyroid.

I started getting Hives on 26th Novemeber, after the H1N1 vaccine. I have been on different antihistamines, both over the counter & prescription ever since. I have also had doses of steroids twice. The most frightening part of all this was the Angiodema when my lips & lower face swelled up so much I couldn`t speak, I now carry an epipen. Blood tests show absolutely nothing & I am waiting to see an allergy specialist. The last 12 weeks have been the most miserable in my 70 years!! Would love to hear from anyone who has been cured after a long bout of this condition.

Three days after having the H1N1 vaccine I started seeing random hives. Over the next week the hives became more intense, hands, palms, back, chest, legs, feet....Itchy!
I've now had them for a month. An MD denied that it could have anything to do with the H1N1 vaccine, but I could think of no new product use, different food eaten, unusual stress, or anything else....EXCEPT for having had the vaccine.

I called the CDC and they told me the same thing. I told the person who answered the phone that she was incorrect. She then verified it and came back and told me I was right. Who are these people answering the phones?!?!

My hives have taken about 3 months to go away. I do still get them randomly in the evenings, but nothing compared to what they were. I went to an allergist and everything came back neg. They also tested my thyroid and that was fine too. I am waiting the results of the CU Index test.

I posted about a month ago. I had hives the next morning after the H1N1...ruled out everything else...it has been 9 weeks. I, too, am convinced it the hives won't disappear until the shot wears off in one year! This is awful...

That doesn't make sense. The shot is long gone. Your antibodies, which will last longer than a year, are all that remain.

What is a CU Index test?

I'm still getting hives....almost six weeks now, and wonder if it's even worth going through the testing, as for most people, it doesn't seem to give any answers. And if only antibodies are floating around our bodies after having had the shot, does this mean somehow that getting the shot goofed up the immune system and we'll live with hives indefinitely?????

I have never gotten a flu shot in my life until now. I got the H1N1 shot three weeks ago and no reactions that day or 24 hours later. I am not allergic to eggs or anything else. I am very active...a week later I broke out in hives all over my body. I thought it might have been something I ate. It would go away and appear in another area. This lasted for 12 hours. The next week I broke out in hives again. But, not as bad. Two days later it happened again. It lasted for two hours. Tonight again I broke out in hives. This time it was more painful than the last three times. As the hives start to go away it spreads in the area it appears and swells so large it looks as if someone has beaten me up! My wrist had swelled to a much larger size than normal too. I realized it has to be a reaction from the H1N1 influenza vaccine...I spoke to the facility that I recieved the shot and they had never heard of this happening before. Will this ever stop occurring?
It is very uncomfortable and painful. I had to take a cold shower to relieve the itching. This seems to happening every couple of days without warning....

I have had the hives on and off for 4 months now, all of the medical tests have been done and have come back negative. I am convinced that it is from the H1N1 vaccine. I work with health care professionals and they say that this could go on for a year. I am taking 5 mg. of Aerius and 150 mg of Zantac at breakfast and supper. I take 50 mgs. of novo-hydroxyzin at bedtime. This is the first week that I have not have huge welts from head to toe. I have small spots but nothing like before. I was sick for one week, couldn't keep anything in me and the hives came back with a vengeance. I guess this is something I will have to deal with until it decides to go away. I am going to ask my allergist for an allergy test to eggs.
