Let's see those lottery lists!

Is Burroughs your IB?

Male sure that's your true preference order. You will likely get into ssma and everything below it, including stokes etx will fall off the list

This is just not true. Saying you will likely get into SSMA (at the time of lottery as that is the only time it matters) is simply not true.

Looks good to me. I would add your IB as #12. Either that or add another safety as Breakthrough may not be a safety. Even if you got in, would you want to commute for just 1-2 years until you got in somewhere else? Maybe look into Imagine Hope (Edgewood) as a #12 safety. You can remove Cap City as it's a little further and it doesn't look like a priority to you.

Thanks. I hadn't really considered Imagine Hope bc of its for-profit past (but maybe that's not fair). Will look into it further.

I have two friends that just did PK3 at Imagine Hope and they had pretty good experiences. Can't beat the commute either.

I know nothing about Langdon. Is it really so bad that you'd prefer to make the drive all the way up to Sela?

I think CHML and L-T are wasted on this list. And you don't have a safety. Is your plan to add Langdon post-lottery?

Why is CHML a waste? I could L-T being a waste since we are OOB. But what's wrong with CHML?

It just seems like a number good enough for CHML would get you into Lee.

Is that correct? Is it because you can change your order of preference after the lottery? Apologies, I'm sure this is simple for anyone who's BTDT, but still figuring it out myself.

Which is your IB?

I wonder if people who put together lists like this do any research? Janney (and I suppose this is true for several others on this list) won't even be able to accommodate all the IB kids, they'll likely only going to have room for IB with sibling. Zero chance OOB.

What difference does it make to you? This person could be IB for Shepherd or Hyde and could be playing lottery just to play. Why do you care?

NP. If they are IB for Shepherd or Hyde they better list those schools, instead of those where they have no chance of getting in. If they don't, they'll get in nowhere.

Let me try again. The PP could already be at a school that they like and could just be playing lottery for the sake of playing. I try not to offer opinions on lottery lists unless asked.

I'd think posting your list on this thread is tantamount to asking for opinions. And I'd also assume that they give their full list, but maybe they don't. It just seems pointless to list schools that are absolutely impossible to get in OOB, even if the list has less than 12 and it doesn't cost anything. And what if the PP isn't aware it's impossible? Maybe pointing it out to them will prompt them to add some schools that can actually serve as backups to their IB? You'd be surprised to see how many people play the lottery without even understanding the basics of it.

Then offer advice, don't just say things like "I wonder if these people do any research." I am in a charter that we live and would only leave for a Deal feeder. Every year since PK4, our list has looked like that. People do different things for different reasons. Best not to assume.

I offered information and expressed my bewilderment, which, yes, implied some judgment. Has that ever happened on DCUM? When someone does something that makes absolutely no sense and posts about it, then they need to be ready for someone to react to it.

No, I'm sorry. It makes objectively no sense to list schools that are guaranteed not to have any OOB spots. Please explain how it possibly could.

NP. You sound unhinged. I know lottery season can be stressful. It's ok. Chill and have a glass of wine. You asked a rhetorical question (like "what are you thinking?"). Fact is, you could have asked clarifying questions. Fwiw, our lottery list looks almost identical. We are at a HRCS that we LOVE but may move WOTP soon so decided to play a free lottery ticket (knowing it will be a dud). No harm, no foul.

Commute and language are drivers for us. We are not concerned about an eventual feeder.

If you're willing to go up to CMI and you value language, I'm surprised you don't have Stokes Spanish on your list. That and Bethune, which is outside of common lottery, are both in Brookland not much farther away than ITS.

We went back and forth on this quite a bit but decided to put a hard stop on 10 minutes of car commute. We noticed once we started creeping it was like "we'll, if we're willing to do 10 why not 15 and if 15 why not 20..."

Or EL Haynes?

How is CMI 10 minutes from Garrison boundary? Have you looked at TR4, Lee or Bruce Monroe? (You say language, but ITS and CMI aren't language schools).

We're on the Northeast edge of the boundary. CMI is about a 9-10 minute drive. TR and Lee are over 15 minutes in morning traffic. The Spanish schools we liked within our radius were prioritized over CMI and ITS. Monroe fell out for a reason that I don't want to dig into here.

Two Rivers is quite a bit further away, but Lee is literally 30 seconds from ITS, just FYI.

Why can't Lee boosters understand that there are some people that don't want to go to Lee? It is not a personal attack on your or your choice. Let it go please.

Huh? WTF are you talking about? I live by both schools and drive past both of them daily. I couldn't care less whether people do or don't want to go to Lee or ITS but they are very close. Two rivers, while a great school is much further away. How is proximity to ITS boosting?

I'm not stressed at all, I'm done playing the lottery. When I did, however, I did enough research to make a list of schools that I had even a remote chance of getting into. Hence my legitimate and not rhetorical question what someone is thinking who lists schools that are guaranteed duds. Really, I was curious, because it is irrational. I think it says more about your state of mind than mine that you find that question so offensive.

I think it says a lot about the two of you. You've veered off any kind of interesting input on a lottery list and have dragged this into a boring fight where you're each determined to get in the last word and let it BURN.
Just let it go.
