Which is your IB?

I wonder if people who put together lists like this do any research? Janney (and I suppose this is true for several others on this list) won't even be able to accommodate all the IB kids, they'll likely only going to have room for IB with sibling. Zero chance OOB.

What difference does it make to you? This person could be IB for Shepherd or Hyde and could be playing lottery just to play. Why do you care?

NP. If they are IB for Shepherd or Hyde they better list those schools, instead of those where they have no chance of getting in. If they don't, they'll get in nowhere.

Let me try again. The PP could already be at a school that they like and could just be playing lottery for the sake of playing. I try not to offer opinions on lottery lists unless asked.

I'd think posting your list on this thread is tantamount to asking for opinions. And I'd also assume that they give their full list, but maybe they don't. It just seems pointless to list schools that are absolutely impossible to get in OOB, even if the list has less than 12 and it doesn't cost anything. And what if the PP isn't aware it's impossible? Maybe pointing it out to them will prompt them to add some schools that can actually serve as backups to their IB? You'd be surprised to see how many people play the lottery without even understanding the basics of it.

Then offer advice, don't just say things like "I wonder if these people do any research." I am in a charter that we live and would only leave for a Deal feeder. Every year since PK4, our list has looked like that. People do different things for different reasons. Best not to assume.

I offered information and expressed my bewilderment, which, yes, implied some judgment. Has that ever happened on DCUM? When someone does something that makes absolutely no sense and posts about it, then they need to be ready for someone to react to it.

It makes absolutely no sense TO YOU!! You should have stopped at first sentence. Next time just ask questions if you're bewildered.

And by the way, I did ask a question. I asked if lists like this are based on any research.

NP. You sound unhinged. I know lottery season can be stressful. It's ok. Chill and have a glass of wine. You asked a rhetorical question (like "what are you thinking?"). Fact is, you could have asked clarifying questions. Fwiw, our lottery list looks almost identical. We are at a HRCS that we LOVE but may move WOTP soon so decided to play a free lottery ticket (knowing it will be a dud). No harm, no foul.

I'm not stressed at all, I'm done playing the lottery. When I did, however, I did enough research to make a list of schools that I had even a remote chance of getting into. Hence my legitimate and not rhetorical question what someone is thinking who lists schools that are guaranteed duds. Really, I was curious, because it is irrational. I think it says more about your state of mind than mine that you find that question so offensive.

You are weird. Other people don't have to think the same way as you. People are allowed to play the lottery however they want. Stop commenting when people don't ask your opinion.

NP here, I don't think she sounds unhinged. Perhaps you are reading way to much into the posters words. Sounds like you are taking the lottery a bit seriously yourself.

Also, PS, the "chill and have a glass of wine" just makes you sound like a 40 year old blonde head. This isn't IRC, use the internet in a real way - /vent

We're inbound for West, work downtown (shared commute), and Spanish immersion is a priority. I'm most unsure about how to rank the DCPS immersion programs.

For PK3:
DCB
MV
Marie Reed
Cleveland
Bancroft
Capital City
TR4
Bridges
Powell
Shepherd
West (IB)
Haynes

And LAMB, maybe Bethune as a safety. We've yet to see CMI or Lee so they may make it onto the list, likely bumping Haynes. We really like our current day care situation so other than cost we don't have any concerns staying there.

Strictly for commuting purposes, I'd drop Shepherd as it's in the opposite direction and doesn't offer Spanish immersion - as you seem willing to do non-immersion, might as well make it convenient. Maybe add Bruce Monroe for another immersion option? But without an amazing number, I think you will be hard-pressed to get in to any immersion programs OOB.

That Deal feeder, though. But you're right. The commute would suck.

PP here with the drop-Shepherd suggestion. Believe me, I think about it too with my Kindergartner--Hearst? Shepherd? Get in now while there's still a shot and lock up Deal-Wilson? We are at a HRCS and happy there. But my mind wanders to middle school and high school and wondering what we'll do (IB not an option). I remind myself that I have no idea what the next 5 years will bring for us. Where we'll be working, living, what our lives will look like--and that it's not worth uprooting my child from a school she loves and we love for a hellish commute and the unknown. Trying to take it one year at a time, but I hear you--it's very easy to fast forward through elementary school and drive oneself crazy. My partner helps me keep this in check, thankfully and I am grateful (so grateful) to be in a place we love.

Love to hear thoughts and feedback. Live in Brookland, commute to work downtown primarily via RIA. Looking for PK3 but okay with staying in current daycare if lose the lottery. Really drawn to montessori and the DCI track schools as is evident in my list. Also prefer not drive all over the city if possible, haha.

1. Lee
2. Shining Stars
3. Inspired
4. Stokes Spanish
5. Stokes French
6. Yu Ying
7. DC Bilingual
8. Mundo Verde
9. Breakthrough
10. Creative Minds
11. Two Rivers 4th
12. Capitol Hill Montessori @ Logan

I didn't get to the open houses for 8-12. It's really slots 9-12 that I'm struggling with. Also on my list but not here: Sela, 2 Rivers Young, School-Within-School. I didn't get to any of these open houses either except SWS.

If you want Montessori / DCI feeder -- why is Inspired #3?

With a bad draw, you could easily be unmatched and have sky high waitlist numbers across your choices. Not a single safety. I know you wrote you're fine with staying in daycare; with this list, the odds are more in favor of your daycare.

You will end up with a 50% chance of daycare with this list. Have you considered Langley as a safety? You are wasting CHML and 2R4 at that ranking. I know there are kids from Brookland in my DD's class at Langley.

Commute to TR4 would be worse as it's nowhere near on the way to downtown. Depending on where you are in sweat zone, Shepherd doesn't seem like much more of a n add to commute than Bancroft for instance. So if you're going to take 16th south anyway, is it that much more to go north a mile against traffics then back down south a mile? Just a thought as you're looking to go 1-4 miles out of your way with other schools.

Wow, you must be un-hinged's cousin. Forget the wine, you need weed! You know it's legal now? Funny that PP came back to say she was IB for Eaton afterall so un-hinged's berating and unsolicited "advice" was for nothing. All she has to do from the start was ask a clarifying question like "are you IB to any of those?"

TR4 actually isn't much out of the way because my office is near judiciary square and actually will be moving to NOMA in 2-3 years.
