Fed Hiring Freeze

I was hoping that they'd get back to me before this executive order was signed. I guess now I know that I won't be hired and that I'll continue as a low-level temp for many years to come.

Your statement about not being hired seems accurate. But why does that mean that you must continue as a temp? The government is just one option.

The exception for OPM to give a waiver is gigantic

I don't even work for the Feds but this seems stupidly malicious. Now agencies will have to encourage people to stay when they should encourage them to retire and get some new ideas in there. Trump should also be encouraged to retire. He's modeling his actions after Reagan's.

Does FBI qualify as public safety? What about the other intelligence agencies?

Why would it not?

sec could technically be spun as national security.

the 'national security' clause is a very huge get out.

I'm with the SEC and give me a freaking break. Yes it applies.

The freeze was coming, and your agency knew it. Your agency could have spend up the process. Your supervisor could have advocated for you.

Ahahaha! What agency do YOU work for? There is no "speeding up the process" in the government bureaucracy. Your supervisor can advocate until the cows come home, but a promotion likely has to go at least 3 levels up the chain of command.

Insider trading is national security? Last I checked dumping company stock has nothing to do with terrorism. Give me a break.

Well money laundering is related to terrorism.

Before I write 1000 essays should I assume this applies to rolling positions like one-year internships or fellowships? Or does the position still exist?

It's only Military; not mention of Public Safety in the press conference.

I feel like nearly all administrative and "non specialized" positions (i.e. not doctors and lawyers) have pretty much been filled via veterans preference in recent years. It's a pretty guaranteed route to hiring when your only marketable skills are infantry. Guess that's over for now.

Not to mention that 85% of federal workers are outside the DMV area. This hurts rural areas in the midwest and south just as much if not more than DC, which is what most people cheering think it will do.

Colorado Springs, Honolulu and Virginia Beach all have more Fed workers are percent of the population than DC metro does.

But that's primarily DoD
