Look at all the people (rightfully) freaking out about the model posting a pic of an anonymous nude woman at the gym. How is that so different from what Kanye did to Taylor in his video? That was LOW. He is not the victim here.

He's a joke. A low-class joke, only tolerated because he's black.

Right, he's rich and famous for being black. That aaaand the 21 grammy awards. He is extremely talented. Stop dismissing his work because you don't get it.

Are you defending the fact that he put a naked image of Taylor in his video without her consent?

NP here, who has not seen the video. But I think Taylor's image is fair game because she's a public figure. See Hustler Magazine vs. Falwell.

+1. And to his friends he is known to be pretty charming and nice.

That was totally untrue. He obviously did call her for approval. Why did she lie?

Again, this is what her people said back in February, and she apparently let that stand until June, only after Kimye said they had proof that a call had actually happened. That's just wrong and a lie.

I wouldn't call the conversation approval. He shared some lyrics he was workshopping. Which he changed. I would call it approval if he shared the song with her manager or PR. And the finished lyrics.

Indeed.

Amazing how oblivious some folks are.

Anonymous wrote:I'm really surprised that everyone is taking Swift's side in this. From what she had said earlier when he said he called her, it had sounded to me like she was denying that there was any call or attempt to alert her about any of the lyrics.

So much of what Kanye had said about it -- that she would be walking down the red carpet getting questions about it and laughing it off because he had cleared it with her first -- was absolutely true, but Swift made it sound like Kanye was out of his mind and just making things up.

If that phone call was not actually an agreement to the lyrics and was just an agreement to listen to the song, then it sounds like this whole thing was a misunderstanding and SHE should have said so from the beginning. "He called me to clear the lyrics and I was open to it but told him I needed to hear the song." NOT "he never called me and I don't know what he's talking about and he's crazy," which seems closer to what she actually said.

Because of this I'm really glad they DID tape the call. Because everyone believed the innocent white girl and thought Kanye and Kim were making stuff up. Even now people here are falling over themselves to defend the poor white girl against mean Kanye, even though Swift totally lied about the conversation and totally overdid it in selling herself as the surprised, innocent white girl taken advantage of by the mean, crazy black man. It isn't right.

She totally references and acknowledges the "famous" part of the lyric in the later part of the phone call. So what she really objected to was the "bitch" part. Fine. But then she complained later that he took credit for her work, when she seemed fine with the "famous" part on the call. I can totally understand why West was confused and felt betrayed by her comments. Doesn't anyone else think she was two faced, saying one thing to him and another to the cameras?

At a minimum I think she should have acknowledged from the beginning that West called her to get her approval and there must have been some misunderstanding. Not "I don't know what he's talking about."

This. A million times. TS' duplicity is exposed.

You keep saying that they denied a phone call. You keep saying that but I have not seen you link a source. So I'll give you a minute to go do that now.

What? She is still a talented musician. I am a Taylor fan because I like her music. Period, end of. I couldn't care less about her personal life. In the grand scheme of things, this is a blip. Taylor will release a new record and do a new tour and see major success yet again. I'm sure she'll win a slew of Grammys again in the future because at the end of the day, she writes catchy tunes and people like her music. Kim K is hanging on to fame by her fingernails. She is desperate and pathetic.

Her success does not exist without the finely crafted narrative of her "personal life".

From Vox:

"Taylor Swift and her success are a strange phenomenon. Critics and her biggest fans will openly tell you that she doesn’t have the best voice or the best technical skills. Her songwriting, while impossibly catchy, isn’t mind-blowing or complex.

What she’s fantastic at is creating songs that crystallize a messy, usually teenage feeling that somehow speaks to everyone, even people who have never felt it, and weave it in with slips of her personal life. The personal life part of that skill is crucial.

Every song she’s released throughout her career, every post she’s shared on social media — it’s all helped paint a portrait of Swift as your best friend. Her latest album, her tour, her Instagram photos, and her Facebook posts are all wrapped around the fantasy of being her pal and joining her coven of female friendship. With some pop stars, you want to be them; with Taylor Swift, you just wanna hang out with her.

Kardashian’s Snapchat video cuts through that veneer — throwing doubt on what your BFF Taylor Swift is telling you, making you wonder, well, if Taylor could lie about that conversation with West, what else could she be lying about?"

Sure. Here, for example, is the Rolling Stone saying "a representative for Swift responded: 'Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask Taylor to release his single 'Famous' on her Twitter account. She declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message. Taylor was never made aware of the actual lyric, 'I made that bitch famous.''"

It may be true that Swift never heard the lyric "I made that bitch famous." However, it is not true that Kanye did not call Swift asking for her approval of the song's lyrics or that he called merely called to get her to release the song from her twitter. He clearly did call for that purpose. Rolling Stone also said it called her rep again and the rep again denied the call for getting approval of the lyrics.

I think she does seem very approving of the lyrics on the call, but whether she actually approved the lyrics are immaterial to the point that he called asking for permission and her people said he never called for that but for some other reason. That's a lie and it's wrong.

Here's the deal. It looks so bad on his part. Out of one side of his mouth, he is calling himself a "friend" and asking her to approve some charged words. Meanwhile he is (secretly?) recording the conversation. Then he changes the lyrics, doesn't send her the final version or tell her about the video. What a friend, right? Once the lyrics are changed, he tries to use the recording against her? The one where he's presenting something different. A friend would, for sure, call the way he did, but he also wouldn't record it, and he also would send a more complete version of the song later. If that was his intent....right? (The intent was to drum up publicity. His wife is familiar with narratives, setting up enemies just to take them down, and using clips, photos, whatever media she has against them.)

I will admit TS has a throw-people-under-the-bus pattern. She will use it if she needs to. And she could have held back. I think she *should have* been better. I think she got greedy with how easy that tactic has worked. I think she will come out ahead on this too. But just a tad tad tarnished. Like, she will have to be on her best behavior for a long time.

I think your education level is to be questioned. When you see the words. "Kanye did not call for approval, but to ask...", it means he did call. She is admitting a call. With those words. With the same words that seem to be denying, it's admitting a call. She is simply denying the intent of the call. So not a liar. An blurri-fier of intent. We can all agree his intent is under question.

NP. Team Kimye. White woman.

I am a taylor fan (musically and even personally, I think she's a great model for a successful female for young girls). I am not really a Kanye fan or a KK fan (although I think a lot of people underestimate her business acumen considering the length of time she's kept her brand relevant and how she's translated it into a lot of businesses. Also all you people saying Kanye isn't talented are smoking crack, he might not be my cup of tea but he's a really stellar lyricist.

This is totally her getting caught in a lie. Everyone talking about how they're bad for recording it...wtf, you're only mad because it clearly exposes her lie and makes her look bad. TS screwed up, she should own it and apologize. She used an opportunity to make the world see that she and Kanye had gotten over their fued and then took a calculated risk by throwing him under the bus to get another round of, 'kanye stabbed TS in the back AGAIN' press. And it didn't work. And there are totally racial undertones to this, and IMO she manipulated this to seem like a sexist thing when it clearly was not which is a disservice to women everywhere who experience real sexism.

I don't know if all you defenders are just reading the transcript and not listening? Because she does NOT sound like she's trying to play nice. She sounds like a peer talking to a peer. Sorry TS, Kimye just checkmated you.
