The South terrifies me. I know there is racism everywhere, but there's a really gross combination of overtness, and Southern politeness, that freaks me out.

This happened in the Midwest, not the south.

I also wonder how many members actually participated in the chant. It seems that it was a member that recorded and leaked it, so obviously some of the brothers were offended.

Yes but Oklahoma touches Arkansas so she thinks that makes it the south! Kind of like how I touched a dog once and am now a dog.

Oklahoma is not in the Midwest.

Oklahoma was Indian territory at the time of the Civil War. If it had been a state, would it have been Confederate or Union? What do you think????

Oklahoma was not a slave state during the Civil War, because it wasn't a state. The Civil War ended in 1865. Oklahoma became a state in 1907.

There was slavery in Oklahoma before and during the Civil War, because the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, and Seminole people whose land the US government stole brought slaves with them to Oklahoma.

The Mason-Dixon line separates Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. If you want to argue that actually the Mason-Dixon line is everything south of 39 degrees 43 minutes N (more or less), then Los Angeles is in the South, as are Arizona and New Mexico.

Reprehensible song, but stop with the double-standard on that word please.

Stop it. Just stop. And, I would suffice it to say that AAs on this site don't utter the word and find it upsetting. I speak for myself.

NO IT ISN'T. It's the Great Plains. There's 2 people here who think it's the south.

For petesake, it's in the Great Plains. But please, keep debating it. We wouldn't want to lose sight of what's really important here.

The fraternity brothers are disgusting, no argument. Why debate about that? But these people are trying to act like everything racist that ever happens is in the south and this wasn't.

I agree re your idea for them to explain themselves and apologize in front of the entire student body. Their actions really are shameful and reprehensible!

In Oklahoma, which is a Great Plains state, unless you're somebody who thinks that the entire US consists of four regions (smart people, farmer hicks, racist hicks, and California).
