The South terrifies me. I know there is racism everywhere, but there's a really gross combination of overtness, and Southern politeness, that freaks me out.

This happened in the Midwest, not the south.

Yes but Oklahoma touches Arkansas so she thinks that makes it the south! Kind of like how I touched a dog once and am now a dog.

It was a joke. Unclench

Oklahomans are really, really sensitive about being quasi Southern.

Because a frat house living is a protect right? Or frat boys are a protected class?

No one is "shaming" the racist turds - they're shaming themselves. Their behavior was their own choice, and it's clear this isn't the first time they sung the chant - the racist men knew the "words" quite well. And were completely unperturbed that they were being videotaped.

I don't know what kinds of stupid things you did when you were younger to give you sympathy for these racists.

The person who videotaped it and sent it to a campus student organization should absolutely be spared backlash - they did the right thing.

Yeah, right. He's the bad guy. Guys like this never end up doing anyone any harm.

They also end up growing up.

Which just means they'll be more discreet with their bigotry

eh. I personally feel sorry for any dumbass young kid who gets labeled anything, even if apparently deserved, at the age of 19 when drunk and immature. Social media sucks.

Yeah, I know. It's like that Hugueley kid. People are going to be labeling him "murderer" for life now. WTF?

It is so bizarre to me that people on here keep bringing up "Free Speech." It's as if these people have no idea what it is. Free Speech is protected and means protection from the US Gov't for speaking out against it. So weird.

The person who posted it is under protection... Wonder why?
You do realize lynching is murder. Violent murder right?

Don't think she/he is amazed. I am betting that she/he has an opinion on why it is national news.

You got me. Frat boys engage in offensive drunken conduct. Film at eleven. Who could have imagined that such things ever occur?

It's a regular occurrence for frat boys to sing songs about lynching? I sure hope not.

WTF are you talking about? This shouldn't in any way be considered regular or even tolerated behavior.

No one is defending the conduct, of course. This is something that should obviously be subject to discipline from relevant university authorities, as has in fact happened. But this low-rent fraternity misbehavior is, even now, the top story on cnn.com's "Top Stories" sidebar. Seriously? How on earth is this *national* news?
