Can I throw my dog poo in your trash?

Anonymous
I don't know if someone has addressed this (and I simply refuse to read 8 pages of what I'm sure are delightful posts on this topic, but in DC at least, trash men only tage garbage that is bagged up. Tiny little plastic bags don't count. So there's a significant possibility that the little bags of dog poop will NOT be picked up, and will (best case) have to be put into a larger bag by the can's owner, after sittign at the bottom of the can for a few days (gross) or (worst case) split opin in the bottom of the can (beyond gross). Based on that, yes, it's rude.

This is not true in my DC neighborhood.

This is EXACTLY what is happening in my suburban neighborhood.

Dog walker/owner puts the doo-doo bag in my trash bin that is set out for the trash collector. I am sure dog owner is not aware that the tiny doo-doo bag is not grabbed when the trash collectors reach into my trash bin. The trash collectors grab what looks like a large white garbage bag, and leave the small doo-doo bag to fall to the bottom of the trash bin (they don't want to lift the entire heavy wheeled trash bin upside down when they can just take the one garbage bag in it). When we bring the wheeled trash bin back to our garage, the dog poop is left to smell.

Bottom line -- I don't have a dog b/c I don't want dog poop in my life. Keep your dog poop to yourself.

And by the way PP (previous page), I wasn't the person who called you an @sshole for leaving your poop in someone's bin. So you (PP) made an incorrect assumption "sweetheart". I called it "beyond rude."

It's also not true in my Montgomery County neighborhood. Trash men take everything in the can that's not specifically prohibited (eg, large branches, concrete blocks, car batteries), whether it's specially bagged or not.

In our MC neighborhood it is very true. Any small bags are left, probably not on purpose but they move quickly.

I'd rather have people have their dogs crap and pee in their own yard so there is no need for me to worry about my kids being in it. I choose not to have a dog on our property as I don't want it on our yard, so I don't want anyone else's either.

It is NOT fine - here is why: The trash people will not throw away the poo bags! They will only take whatever is properly in trash bags from our cans - and we are left with any excess trash that people have taken upon themselves to throw in our can. It is especially gross when we're stuck with random dog poo bags - that we then have to fish from the bottom of our can.

Please find another way to deal with the poo!

This is definitely true of my current and past neighborhood - Glover Park and Dupont. They only take trash in bags.

To me, it's ok if the trash has not been collected yet. But if the trash is collected already , throwing dog poop in it is gross. It stays there for 6 more days till the next time trash is collected. The smell is terrible and attracts flies and other bugs.

Someone has been doing this at my house/trash can.

Perhaps they don't realize that the garbage collectors grab the big garbage bag out of my trash bin and the dog poop bag (being so small) falls to the bottom (and is left in the trash bin). Then we roll the bin into our garage and find that the stink is someone's dog poop --- and we don't have a dog.

It's beyond rude to use someone else's trash can for your dog's poop. Put it in your own trash can. It's baffling to me that anyone thinks it is o.k. to do this.

No, sweetheart, it is not "beyond rude" to use your trash can. It's totally ok. If you don't like it, do as a PP suggests and lock them up.

Ok you sound pretty condescending with your "sweetheart" comment. It's not o.k. to leave poop in my trash can. And No, I can't "lock them up" b/c it only happens when my trash bin is set out for the garbage collector to take the trash (but as I stated, the small poop bags fall to the bottom). Otherwise, my trash bins are "locked up" in my garage. My trash bin on my property is not for general public use.

Do you eat on it? in it? Does it sit in your living room? Do you use it as part of your decor? It's a trash can. I GUARANTEE it you wouldn't notice the poo was in it if you were not looking for it. Tied up bags of poo don't smell. I smell the food I throw out (due to septic we don't use the garbage disposal) more than anything else. (and spare me about the small bags falling to the bottom, I have had two large dogs and over ten years have never had a problem with the bags falling out or whatever it is you are alleging).

It's a trash can. This is trash. I'm not walking into your home to toss my trash.

I find some of your obsessions with your trash cans, your propriety area interest in them, and what goes in it to be more than a little strange. And resulting to "asshole" and name calling is more rude than your accusation.

fK YOU!

Its not ok as you are not picking up on what people are saying that not all trash collectors take small tiny bags. Ours in MC does not. It can stay for weeks till we realize it. It is gross and we don't have animals for this reason. You would not appreciate if I dropped a diaper in a plastic bag in your trash can so how is dog poop any different?

For those who their dog's poop doesn't stink, why don't you take it home and throw it into your own trash?

PLEASE do not put your dog poo in my trash can. I live near downtown Silver Spring, and our trash guys often leave behind anything that's not inside a large trash bag. We once had a sitter who kindly and (she thought) helpfully took a poopy diaper right outside and dropped it into the trash can. We had to fish it out when we found it days later. That is what we'd have to do to your dog's poop.

It may be that your own trash guys are different but PLEASE, PLEASE err on the side of caution here. You have chosen to have a dog. Please don't make your dog's poop my problem. It's gross, and mean.

Ain't that the truth?! I live near a park where people let their dogs run. Many of them drive rather than walk their dogs to the park. Some, heaven forbid, don't want to carry their 'doggie bags' home in the car, so they just leave them like little gifts on the curb. Some others will see a pile of branches or brush near the street and helpfully lay the sh@* bags on top. Wonder who they think gets to pick the bags up?
