Husband is being "recruited" to join the Masons

To the others, is there a way to know if someone is a mason? I don't think I know any, but you never know! There are a few creepy men I work with that I'd be TOTALLY unsurprised to learn were masons, just based on the fact that I could see them eating a live chicken's head, etc.

We talk about it, PP. I am not controlling, as some have pointed out. But certainly if I find something objectionable, I will make my views clear. After all, I did not come from my husband's rib!!

I never knew my friend's father, brothers and BILs were all Masons. However, when I did ask out of curiosity, she said they were all brought into the fold by her father. And they're all Jewish, btw, and in some Jewish lodge.

Although I can't see them eating a live chicken's head (LOL!), they are all VERY wealthy (as in being able to wipe themselves with ten dollar bills). So I imagine this lodge is heavily connected.

My friend HATES the whole thing, and while they're not open about their meetings, she says they attend them on a regular basis and brag about their membership as though a way of life. Their wives are also pretty quiet, and all SAH, appearing to be very supportive of their spouses. So as far as control is concerned, their husbands seem to have it - NOT the other way around.

Hater? Bigot? First of all, I grew up Catholic and as a grown up chose of my own free will not to continue to be Catholic. I am a converted Jew. Get over yourselves. Bigot, really?

Second of all, that WAS NOT my response.

Disagreeing with the Catholic Church DOES NOT make me a bigot or a hater, in fact, you calling me those names makes you filled with hate.

Then you are likely the poster at 8:23 here, who identifies herself as a jew, calls catholicism a "cultish religion" and mocks communion turning wine into blood: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/192971.page .

You are a hater, and a pretty disgusting person.

I was talking about masons in SA.

The father gave the youth group a study about it so I learned abt it from the source.

My FIL was born and raised Catholic and he is a mason. I think having become a mason and seeing God and spirituality in a different light, made his Catholic beliefs fall by the wayside a bit. Though, I am not sure where the whole thing about them not accepting Catholics came from. If that was the case, there would be no masons at all in South America...and there are a lot of masons in South America. There are masonic lodges all over the world.

I'm the poster who told the story about the Demolay friend and his dad. They converted to a Protestant church and left the Masons. I'm from SA.

Most of the masons are not Christian at all. It's very common to hear testimonies of former Masons who abandoned the order after converting to Christianity and if a Christian joins the order he keeps it a secret. And not everybody in SA is Catholic. The numbers are inflated by the Carholic church and most of the people follow anoter religion (most santeria related or spiritualist related) but still say they're CAtholics just because of the tradition.
you have to believe in God to be a Mason, most are Jewish or some sort of Christian. You have no idea what your talking about.

Fwiw, every "secret" bit of masonic rite, ritual, and ceremony is in The Library of Congress.

Congrats, bigot! You're hate-filled posts are starting to catch up with you.

Meanwhile, the rest of us have figured out that we live in a democracy, and that disagreeing with somebody doesn't mean you can demonize them (c.f. gays and jews, ironically!).

OP, you sound reasonable. In your shoes, I'd say to your husband that you are just VERY uncomfortable with the whole thing. While the connections would be good, it's not like enormous wealth is going to convey once your husband joins the masons. What it does mean is that the mere chance of connections and possible wealth are being pursued at the expense of the partner (wife in this case)'s comfort level. I would not ever join something that required secrecy from my spouse, unless the reason for that secrecy was a matter of public safety and security, etc. (And even then, I think there would be better candidates for the job, ha ha). I happen to believe that secrets within a marriage, however innocuous, can become poisonous. Sure, many masons have strong marriages, but I would think that if you're against and he joins anyway, this would create a huge, maybe unnecessary strain on the marriage. There are enough unavoidable strains out there already that makes turning this down a no-brainer for me. And I'm putting msyelf into your husband's shoes, not yours. Well, good luck!

Anonymous wrote:Did Orthodox Jews do something bad to Masons? The anti Jewish comments on this thread seem personal. Plus all of the anti Catholic sentiments. Clearly, the Masons on this thread have shown themselves to be anti religion. And possibly anti-Semitic.

I'm not Jewish or Catholic but respect their beliefs and those who adhere to them. The defensive Masons here trying to tear down other people's religious beliefs in order to try and defend theirs are doing a terrible job of representing their weirdo cult. LOL.

I don't even know why these threads are allowed to remain! Isn't there a secret Scientologist meeting which teaches you how to shut down internet dissent? Didn't you guys get the powerpoint? Tearing down Christians is amateur. Shouldn't you be calling in lawyers now?

I don't think any Masons are posting here regarding Jews or Christians. My DH & FIL are Jewish & are Masons, many of the Masons in their Lodge are in fact some sort of Christian or Catholic. Masons have no issue with the Catholics, it is the other way around.

For the record, every "secret" Masonic book used in lodges and temples is in The Library of Congress. This is a fact. You are free to go there and read up on anything you wish. While members are sworn to uphold the Masonic Oaths, what goes on in the temples is all out there, so to speak.

As for whoever put the very long quote from the book about the Masonic person and the 33rd rite, I guess you've never been to an old Church in Europe. Skulls? Really? Have you been to Paris? Have you toured underground.... I mean, anyone can take an experience and turn it into a work of fiction or dramatize it.

Most Free Masons have this symbol on the back of their vehicle, which also happens to be on the dollar bill. Again, several of the Founding Fathers of this country were Free Masons. Hello! George Washington & Benjamin Franklin. You may want to read this as the base stones of the Washington Monument are masonic stones, laid by Free Masons, the architecture all around DC have Masonic meaning, as does the dollar bill. This isn't just in the US, it's all around the world. http://watch.pair.com/mason.html#fathers

On any given day you can find a program on the history channel discussing the Masons and their contribution to the United States in both architecture and politics.

Here is a list of rather famous free masons - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Freemasons - take a really long look at that list and tell me all of these men are "ewww" and "creepy". Really? Burl Ives? Oscar Wilde? John Phillip Sousa? Theodore & Franklin Roosevelt? Paul Revere? Scottie Pippen? Prince Phillip (Queen Elizabeth's Husband)? Yes, they all are Icky, Icky men. And really, their wives are all too controlling to let them join! Presidents, dignitaries, celebrities, authors, politicians... The Masons are not too "Yuck" or "Icky" for these men, but too "Ewww" and "Icky" for your lowly CPA husband.

OP, you sound like you are close minded, lack being worldly, and just want to control what your DH does. I can counter every stupid bit of misinformation you find out there posted on the internet, and just because it's out there does not make it so. The links I posted, they are fact. Those men were all masons, the architecture, all known fact.

Alright, but if Catholics are going to put themselves out there and try to legislate their beliefs then they can't cry "bigot" every time someone writes about how they are offended and think their beliefs are unjust! Voice any opposition to Catholic beliefs on this website and you WILL get called a bigot. I do not hate Catholics but I AM offended by Catholic beliefs. If they confined their beliefs to their parishoners I wouldn't have much to say about them. But they don't. So they open themselves up to criticism. They are not exempt from it just because they are a religion.

I am also not the only person to voice this but every time someone does they are lumped together as if we are all one "bigoted" poster. Guess what!? We are not. Lots of people are offended by Catholic beliefs on sexuality and as the Catholic church has inserted itself into modern American politics do feel justified in criticizing those beliefs.

Here's the big difference: most of us have learned that it's wrong to denigrate gays and lesbians for their sexual orientation. We've learned not to denigrate Jews. Most of us have definitely matured in our political discourse.

But your anti-catholic hate talk (and I agree with the poster who says it is hate talk) has not matured one bit. You're still in the 1950s with the Mad Men crowd, but while they sneer at women and jews, you sneer at Catholics. Congratulations on being a trogdolyte throwback.

Yep, I'm the throwback. Because groups that oppose gay marriage offend and anger me, I'm the bigot. Some people can hear no criticism of their chosen religion and you are one of those people.

12:55, you've been busted with a capital B. The sad thing is that you don't get the irony of coming from a persecuted religion, yet persecuting other religions. Once again: we live in a democracy, and just because you disagree with somebody, it doesn't give you the right to denigrate their beliefs. Most of us have learned how wrong it is to persecute blacks, jews or gays. You're still a hater though, a real throwback.

I'm going to bookmark these links, and every time you show your nasty, bigotted face, I'm going to post these links. Maybe others who find you disturbing will join me.

I'm not catholic, BTW, it's not my "chosen religion" as you say.

You guys realize that there is more than one person in this world that is annoyed by the Catholic church pushing their archaic and harmful teachings into our laws, right?

I'm not the poster that everyone is calling a bigot. She's also not a Jew. She has stated that she's an atheist on other threads.

So there's more than one self-identified jew who hates catholics on DCUM? I sure hope not. Seriously, I doubt it.

Anyway, she says she's jewish in two places that were pointed out above, in 11:00 where (a) she's quoted directly, and (b) linked to another post of hers.

OP here -

I especially like the New Order of the Ages and the all-seeing eye.

Thanks for the icons.

btw - My own father was a stone mason.
