Husband is being "recruited" to join the Masons

The Charlotte was recovered from the ice. I think it is in the American History Museum being restored.

Um, no. That is a Fictional Movie, not a documentary on the History or Discovery Channel.

You guys are calling the Masons "cultish" and "ICKY", but then mocking the information put forth. How mature of you. And the Catholic poster is a bigot and rabid... No, not any of you!

National Treasure won Best Documentary at the Academy Awards, so how are you saying it is not a documentary? It is based on a pulitizer winning non-fiction piece. Amazing denial.

The one with Nicholas Cage? Can you post a link? I think it won a Teen Choice award.

A simple google search will answer your question:

I don't know why but that documentary always reminds me of the show I saw on the History Channel ....the Da Vinci Code.

This is just ridiculous. I have posted a few times on this thread about how I disagree with the Catholic church on gay marriage. I am not Jewish and I am not an atheist (nor am I affiliated with the Masons). There are several people posting on this thread who disagree to varrying degrees with the church teachings on sexuality. Yet there is someone who INSISTS on labelling us all a bigot.

For that person: Are you saying that anyone who states that they disagree with the church's teachings on sexuality and homosexuality is a bigot? If I say: I think the Catholic Church's teachings on homosexuality are unjust and lead to discrimination does that make me a bigot in your eyes?

Someone here, like I said before, WILL NOT permit any criticism of her church without calling bigotry.

Neverless I have hope that eventually our society will do the right thing and despite the Catholic church's efforts (and the Mormon church's efforts, etc) gay people will be able to be married and we will all know who really holds the BIGOTED beliefs.

Just because you call me a bigot for promoting equality does not make it so.

There's also this National Treasure, a movie with Nicholas Cage: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368891/ . It wasn't very good, as I remember. In fact I think DH and I ended up talking through it about how bad it was.

And to the bigot, nobody is reading your links. It's like the dingbat who posted the links to the Georgia CDC bestiality "scandal" elsewhere in this forum. And I have never called the masons "icky" or "yucky." I have nothing against masons or catholics - you should learn to be so tolerant.

Please, do yourself, and the rest of us, a favor and figure out what you're so angry at. Then you can maybe do something about it, and stop embarrassing yourself with your hateful rants on DCUM.

I'm pro gay-rights and pro gay-marriage. If she could limit herself to these issues, I'd be all with her. In fact, I'm with you on disagreeing with the catholic church on gay marriage. I'm not catholic, or a mason for that matter.

Why is she a BIGOT? Because gay marriage is maybe 5% of what she posts. She posts absolute bullsh$t about how the church was founded on prostitution. And how some holidays share dates with pagan holidays (who the heck cares, it's the meaning of the holidays, and FWIW with this one she insulted all Christians, not just catholics, but folks here are too well-adjusted to take apart her religion in the same way, and believe me it could be done). And the posts that were linked to where she trashes the catholic (not protestant) belief in transubstantiation during communion, calling it a bloodthirsty cult.

I wonder if you've read the links to her posts - she goes way beyond gay marriage, to nasty stuff that has no relevance to gay marriage or masons. These things -- and not her position on gay marriage -- make her a bigot.

There's a big difference, and I hope it's clear now. How can you defend her, is what I want to know.

The bigot has figured out that if she mentions gay rights, it gives her cover to call communion a blood thirsty cult and talk about whores. People like 21:06 see the gay rights part and miss the rest of her nastiness.

21:06, how can you defend her? Unless you're actually her, defending herself by trying to look like a reasonable third party.

16:10 is partially correct -- there is a separate branch of Freemasonry called Prince Hall Masonry which has a mostly if not entirely African-American membership. Blacks were only permitted entry into "mainstream" Freemasonry in the US in the past 20 years.

On the flip side, some of the Prince Hall Grand Lodges (each state has a "mainstream" and a Prince Hall Grand Lodge that is 100% independent of other state Grand Lodges) objected to the "poaching" of Blacks by the "mainstream" lodges.

FWIW, all 50 states' "mainstream" Grand Lodge recognize each other; only 7 "mainstream" Grand Lodges -- and you can guess where they are -- refuse to recognize their Prince Hall counterparts.

It can be a time sink if the brother permits it, with the fraternal visits, ceremonies, study, etc., etc. I do regret with a four year old at home and a working wife I cannot devote as much time as I might like. In fact, I joined a local government commission that meets the same time as the Lodge I'd want to join.

It will take perhaps 6-12 months to work from initiation to being raised as a Master Mason (this depends on how often you're able to meet with your mentor, and how intense the mentoring sessions are.)

The most active members (at least in the lodge I was raised in) seemed to be the men with their kids in high school and above and the men who did not yet have kids -- there were a few men with SAH wives that didn't seem to mind their husbands being heavily involved in Freemasonry. I was pretty rare in that my wife worked AND I had a kid still at home.

Making good men better -- I'm not sure why OP would find it objectionable.

My first thought on reading this is...Ewwww...

Really, your post is just creepy.

lolwut?

And lastly, sexual abuse... hello. I have never heard of a Mason sexual molesting a young boy. I have heard of a Catholic Priest molesting young boys over the years. It seems to be a problem within the Church.

The problems with sexual abuse in the Church are inexcusable, but do a quick search and you will find it is not limited to the Catholic Church. The abuse in the Catholic Church just gets more press.

More children are abused by Protestant ministers than by Catholic priests. In 1990, the Freedom from Religion Foundation issued a study on pedophilia by clergy. At that time, two clergy per week were being arrested in North America for sex crimes against children. Fifty-eight percent of them were Protestant. It is abhorrent no matter who is doing the abusing, but get your facts straight. It is not just a "Catholic" problem.

You gloss over the sex acts with a 6 year old. How convenient.

Anybody want to defend this post from 7:59?

I grew up Catholic and now I am an anti-Catholic household. Maybe OP would ban her DH from working or being friends with me. Really, the Catholic Church was built on lies, scandal, stealing, whore houses, and so on. If you are going to scandalize the Masons you need to be fair and look at the history of the Catholic Church. Inquisition? Crusades? Gays? Abortion?
Seriously. Glass houses, people.

I actually agree that the catholic church is wrong on gay rights and abortion. Where she turns into a bigot is where she starts in on the lies, scandal, stealing and whore houses. Unless somebody here thinks it's OK to say, I don't know, that all Republicans are whores because you disagree on tax policy.

Sorry, you'll have to post a link. I can find nothing in numerous google searches that link to that info.
