H1b visas. Anyone else work in technology and see the issues with this program and outsourcing?

Looks like there’s no Indians on Elons AI team anymore? Just Whites and East Asians? What happened? 🤣🤣🤣

P.S. Insider verified to me that all the Indian hires were let go for being unable to contribute anything. Obvious fake credentials/most likely scam interviews.

As soon as it's dominated by East Asians, MAGA will go after that group, I have no doubt.

-signed an East Asian.

No. There are positive things to say about East Asians, and I have negative h things to say about another group but this board flags criticism like this.

East Asians do a great job of assimilating and contributing to community.

Assimilation takes time, nobody assimilates fresh off of the boat.

Exactly. This whole ‘well we have to hire them bc of their special skills’ is nonsense. Total nonsense.

I think average people think it’s a little slice of IT support or customer service, but it is almost all of the tech operations - which are layered and complicated- with the US based workers- often h1b- as vendor managers.

There is this entire huge shadow workforce abroad.

Then MAGA should boycott Amazon. And Walmart. And Oracle. And Google. And Meta.

Ya know, the oligarchs.

This is what I've been trying to state. The pipeline bringing them over is a scam operation with South Asians at each juncture pushing fellow Indians. They squeeze out Americans. One U.S. citizen I know was harassed endlessly by Indian co-workers. They wanted him to quit so they could hire another Indian. This is happening to American citizens on American soil.

There are other previous threads that carefully spell out the scam pipeline involving bribery, South Asians responsible for the hiring process, etc. I urge everyone to read them.

This scam pipeline is hurting American workers. I live in Loudoun County and see the surging population of H1B immigrants. My friends and neighbors, brilliant and profoundly qualified, are losing their jobs to these people.

This is very true. The same is happening in Atlanta suburbs, and it’s astonishing how quickly this has taken place. Entire new neighborhoods with $800k+ homes are being populated with Indian families, in areas they didn’t previously have a presence in. It’s the jobs. They are getting paid $$$$$$, and they hire each other.

You’re my neighbor, I can tell. It’s exactly this. Farmland sells - developer - new homes - within weeks i see the bus stop kids are 100% Indian mostly middle or high schoolers. I drive by 12 of these developments every morning, and they were only built in the last two years.

Have you asked yourselves who is making $$ off these Indians moving into the suburbs? Or is it just the workers fault?

Seriously. I don't fault people for using legal means to get jobs in the US that these US companies are offering to them.

i dont either.

i do fault Democrats for not only allowing this to happen but ADVOCATING FOR MORE of this!

1 - Why are Democrats suing to allow US Universities to replace US citizens with cheap h1bs?

US Public Universities claim they cannot find skilled labor and yet they are the very institutions that train skilled labor.

it is not about skilled labor , it is about cheap labor. and replacing US citizens.

A coalition of blue states is suing the Trump administration over its fee of $100,000 for H-1B Visas, several Democratic attorneys general announced on Friday.
The Trump administration announced in September that it would be implementing the fee for H-1B visas, citing that the program for the visas is overused. California Attorney General Rob Bonta, joined by Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell and New York Attorney General Letitia James and others, is leading the suit.

2 - why are Democrats advocating for expanding OPT?

OPT is used to replace US college grads with cheap labor, subsidized by federal government. Biden expanded. Many Democrats want to expand. NONE have advocated for elimination.

3 - why are Democrats advocating for expanding H-1B?

point to a single democrat that has proposed repeal of H-1B? none. multiple republican proposals, but absolutely NONE from Democrats. I have called Kaine and Warner and Connelly multiple times and all respond with emails claiming strong support for H-1B.

that is the real tragedy. How Democrats have lied to US workers and pushed to expand them with cheap disposable temporary foreign labor.

You think Democrats are the only ones fighting to keep H1-B? Tons of Republicans want that cheap foreign labor. Tons of MAGAs have been taught to hate American universities and educated Americans and stupidly could care if our STEM programs implode.

point to a SINGLE DEMOCRAT advocating for limiting H-1B or OPT or L1.

a SINGLE DEMOCRAT??

multiple republicans have pushed forward proposals.

Bottom line is that qualified Americans should be getting first crack at American jobs. And there ARE qualified Americans. Employers need to stop lying and gaming the system.

Pretty much every major US company spends tons and tons on technology- more than the average person probably realizes because it’s not obvious how complicated back end tech stacks have become- and most of those people (often through foreign companies with a small US footprint) are offshore around the world with a small US based team that is often 50%+ foreign too because of h1b visas. I see it every day, and I see how carefully companies set things up so the extent of it is not obvious.

I am not anti immigrant. But when I hear of US kids spending 400k on college degrees and then struggling to find work, it bothers me.

Companies do not train people, there seems to be zero incentive. Why?

Off shoring is the issue you are really talking about. Having H1Bs or US citizens managing the off shoring doesn’t really result in many more jobs for American students. It’s that entry level jobs are much cheaper off shore. And may be even more affected by AI.

This +100.

Offshoring started in the 90s. Trump said that it was because the US taxed corporations too much in term 1 and changed that. Offshored jobs have not come back.

Agreed, this is the crux of the issue. No one hates Indians working in corporate America or is racist towards Indians, but there has been a noticeable trend (primarily in Data Analytics and IT spaces) of Indian workers pushing out Americans.

Compounding this is the issue of offshoring American jobs to India, that feeds the resentment of American workers towards Indian workers. And American workers know they are not being replaced due to performance superiority, but merely due to cheaper labor costs for Indians.

At the same time, these Indian workers in America are being promoted and hiring/promoting only other Indians. I work for a Fortune 50 company and we have entire teams at our office that are 100% Indian, not American born. It is impossible for non-Indians (and especially other minorities) to be hired onto those teams. You cannot blame Americans for being upset about this.

I’m all about economic prosperity for everyone, but there’s an exploitation happening right now and unfortunately American workers are getting the sh!t end of the stick.

The H‑1B and L‑1 Visa Reform Act of 2025 was just lipstick on a pig. Did nothing to material reduce the chamber of commerce's dependence on the program. All quotas would have remained intact, just shifted around who would be eligible.

In particular it did nothing to stop companies from taking advantage of perpetual green card queues or Visa extensions.

that bill is not a repeal or pause or limit.

it keeps H1B and L1. does NOTHING to stop the replacement of US workers.

Congressman Riley Moore is urging Sec. Mullin to terminate the OPT program, which has effectively become a cheap-labor boon for tech companies that recruit students on visas before they get their H-1B visas.

The transitional program has caused 450k Americans to lose out on job opportunities, many of them STEM graduates.

would love pro-h1b fanatics to explain this lovely video.

Immigration attorneys from Cohen & Grigsby explains how they assist employers in running classified ads with the goal of NOT finding any qualified applicants, and the steps they go through to disqualify even the most qualified Americans in order to secure green cards for H-1b workers. See what Bush and Congress really mean by a "shortage of skilled U.S. workers." Microsoft, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, and thousands of other companies are running fake ads in Sunday newspapers across the country each week.

“Our goal is clearly NOT to find a qualified U.S. worker…our objective is to get this person a green card…so certainly we are not going to find a place where applicants would be most numerous.”

.. and let's not forget that Trump uses visa workers, and he said,

“No, you don’t have certain talents and people have to learn.” He added, “You can’t take people off an unemployment line and say, ‘I’m going to put you into a factory where we’re going to make missiles.’”
