| I hate the Disney parks because they let way too many people in - but a cruise is limited to the number of people who can sleep there. Our kids are older now but 10-15 years ago we would have enjoyed a Disney cruise. |
Lol I bet they exclusively camp and drag their kids into museums. I bet their kids hate vacationing with their parents and are counting the days until they launch and can have some fun. |

I think it’s good to do all of these types of things, but agree that there are some parents who are more focused on how cool or fancy they look and will drag their kids all over when sometimes with the family would enjoy more is a few days in an amusement park that is kid centered. My teen loves museums and walking around cities, but he also enjoys a few days at universal or Disney and we do both things |

We took our kids on nature vacations - think Alaska - and eschewed Disney only by personal preference. We hate crowds.
I'm guessing we're in the minority. But I'd never dream of telling someone MY take on THEIR vacation. People are different. Allow them to be. |
DP, but yes and it wasn’t for us. Just don’t like being stuck on a boat for extended periods of time. Learned the hard way that I’m pretty much a land based mammal. |
| The only thing stopping me from taking my kid on a Disney cruise is my strong motion sickness. Otherwise, I would do it. I've heard great things and everyone I know who's gone on one has had a great time. |

People are rude... but I too recently had a disney cruise booked. After reading the reddit forums and realizing all the love for the food was from rabid Disney cruise fans who have essentially been taking the same vacation for years, I canceled it. I don't think its that nice - seriously for the money you are spending, consider a high quality hotel with a kids club. My kids are older elementary, so for us I think we just missed the sweet spot. Maybe yours are young enough where its worth it -but - go in with your eyes open - I don't think its going to be that amazing.
(i'm not saying any of this to be snarky - I'm saying go in with your eyes open that this is the vacation you want to take with those dollars. My sincere alternate suggestion if you are fitting in a shoebox anyway is 4S Anguilla or 4S Maui and make sure the kids club is open - get the basic room and thank me later. Rent a car on either island. The cost will come out not that different....) |
Cruise food was good. |
I’m not sure I’d call a Disney Cruise an expensive vacation if you book a normal (mid-tier) room and don’t do concierge? 4S is usually minimum $2K/night and doesn’t include all food and drink and entertainment. |
| Some insecure people just care more about pretending to be high class than having a good life. |
My mother totally would. She complained about having to be at Disney while I was a child and we were there. Ugh. I love Disney but there's a certain very anti-Disney crowd. They are often very anti-consumerist and also party poopers. |
Thats not true (and I’ve done both). 4S Maui with flights came in over $10k, 5 night Disney cruise with flights under $5k. They’re both fun vacations but they’re not interchangeable. People who hate on one kind of vacation or another tend to be people with really limited vacation time who have to justify their choices. My kid has done rainforests and museums AND my kid has done Disney cruises but I don’t have to probe the superiority of either because for us they’re not mutually exclusive. |
I was kind of anti-Disney, but ended up having a great time. Seeing my kids enjoying themselves was the best part. Also, it was an easy vacation- park yourself at the resort and Goto done parks. Our visit was a decade ago, when kids were younger. It does sound like Disney has gotten worse- more expensive, complicated ticketing and express lanes. Glad we checked the Disney box. Probably won’t be back unless we are fortunate enough to have grandkids. As for Disney cruises…never been, but have heard only good things about them. |
The ones I know aren’t anti consumerist at all. They just see Disney as “low brow” and beneath them. |
