Turns out, people have very strong reactions to Disney cruises

I’ve never been on one, but I’ve only heard great things about them. Enjoy, OP!

I don't get this. It's really not a nightmare. Pay for all the extras and go at an off-peak time, and it's a really pleasant experience that the vast majority of kids enjoy greatly.

The post is about the cruise, not disney world.

I'd encourage you to be less judgmental in your head, too.

No, my head is my own realm where I can think whatever I want. Try it!

Being judgmental of inconsequential choices other people make, including privately, is miserable.

I would say nice even though I have not been to one. I assume it cost around $10k for a family of 4 on Disney cruise, so it must be really really nice with good food and many entertainment.

Did my first recently. Never thought I'd like it and always thought people were weird for doing it more than once.

I totally get it. We ALL had a great time. Great food, wonderful shows, etc, fun at stops.

What’s worse about the cruises? Here, people are saying Disney World is somehow more horrific than their five-figure per family cruise.

To each his own. I think it would be a nightmare. Just not my taste. If I were you, I’d ask people if their reaction was based on negative experiences. There may very well be something to this.

My husband had a rude, judgmental response to a neighbor who mentioned they were taking their family of 5 on a Disney cruise. Later, I mentioned the entire trip was probably 10k and he was in shock. I also told him
he has incredibly rude. Just say that sounds great, enjoy.

I have only been on one cruise, so I’m not a “cruiser,” but if you are looking for relaxation, I think cruises are great! On our one cruise, we had a bunch of days at sea, which I thought would be brutal- trapped on a ship with nothing to do! Days at sea were great. There was a lot to do and nothing to do. This depends on you. I savored finding quiet parts of the ship, reading and looking at the sea. It was so relaxing.

People love to think they’re too good for Disney anything. Not sure why they feel the need to be so rude. Lots of friends take trips that don’t appeal to me but I would never say anything negative to them.

Disney may not be for everyone but they do things well, whether their haters want to admit it or not.

FWIW, I live in a fairly expensive zip code and have heard nothing but wonderful things about Disney cruises from friends who have gone on them. And as someone without a lot of family help, I totally get the appeal of a vacation with built-in childcare. Funnily enough all my friends who have gone have 3+ kids so I’m sure getting in some kid free time was a motivating factor!

These cruises also aren’t cheap. They’re supposed to be really well done. Disney thinks of everything when it comes to families. Enjoy your trip and ignore the haters!

Wouldn't they mention their expensive disappointing vacation?

For real, do Disney cruise's built in childcare take tween ages like 10 to 13 and keep them entertained? I would love to know the childcare hours.

NP—the very thing you are doing right now? Fascinating.

I think this is it. The anti Disney (and even anti cruise) sentiment seems heavily based on these things being “trashy” (i.e. lower class).
