Nope |
| I heard a community meeting is planned for Wednesday. Anyone else hear about this? Has the principal sent out a letter about it? |
The principal sent a letter inviting the Northwood community to a meeting. Please don't share the zoom link on DCUM. |
Is MCPS no longer a public school? Why should a meeting about the wellbeing of a public school, which is funded by taxpayers across the entire county, be kept secret? |

The neighborhood and community at and near the temp Northwood HS location want to know what the heck is going on at 'Woodward' HS too. It is WJ territory. |
Absolutely! You’re right, WJ families and neighbors should absolutely not be shut out from this community meeting. Also: Northwood is part of the DCC, which at least for now, is one big connected network of clusters. Why should other DCC community members not be able to attend the Northwood community meeting on a topic that impacts all of our schools? Keeping the meeting secret and concealed from the public serves who best? Not county residents who have a vested interest in the wellbeing of our public education system. |
| Will the kid face criminal charges? A loaded gun should be a ban from any school. |
Yes, he is being charged as an adult. https://bethesdamagazine.com/2025/12/05/northwood-student-charged/ |
Northwood parent here. There is a community meeting scheduled. I’m curious what you think the PTSA should be saying or doing. Would they have any independent information to share? |
They should be elevating the concerns of parents and teachers and asking MCPS what it plans to do to make their school safer and do more to prevent similar situations from happening in the future. |
Why doesn't MCPS have a no tolerance policy? |
That is not going to fly in a county as liberal and progressive as Montgomery County. Also, a purely punitive and responsive approach does nothing in terms of prevention. Also, if you have a no tolerance policy, you still have to have a place to put and educate these kids as they are still legally entitled to a free, public education. I do think MCPS should be looking to bolster and improve Blair E. Ewing, so that the alternative school can take on more kids. MCPS also needs to be less shy about referring kids to alt school based on certain behavioral infractions. In theory, the revisions to the Student Code of Conduct allow MCPS to do that more easily now this school year. |
Stop putting out of boundary troubled kids into other schools is the short answer. He's an out-of-bounds SESES kid. Until that entire program is revamped and they can service kids like him properly, nothing will change. |
