| What is 8.23 Human Resources and Talent Management Report? |
| What exactly is a Blue Ribbon school? Does anyone care about the designation? Clap clap... |
|
The BOE does not care about safety. Not a single board member is willing to hold the system's feet to the fire on this topic.
They will continue to let Marcus Jones collect a paycheck as a favor to the county government, because they feel he's owed that as former chief of police. Taylor and Peter Moran aren't willing to hold the principals accountable because they're scared of MCAAP. Nothing will change. Unless the right person gets hurt or dies. |
The original Blue Ribbon awards was a status awarded to "top-performing" schools by the Department of Education. Earlier this year, Trump and the Department of Education announced they were canceling the program: https://www.chalkbeat.org/2025/09/04/blue-ribbon-schools-program-ended-by-trump-administration/ In response, Maryland set up a state-level version of the program with the same name to replace it: https://governor.maryland.gov/news/press/pages/governor-moore-reinstates-maryland-blue-ribbon-schools-program.aspx |

RFP Name: University of Maryland Implementation of Project ECHO (Evidence-Based Coaching for Higher Outcomes) Responsible Department: Department of Curriculum Development 5018.1 8006.1 Description: This request seeks approval of a new annual contract with the University of Maryland (UMD) as part of the grant MCPS was awarded through the Maryland Read and Lead (Comprehensive Literacy State Development) Grant. The contract with UMD is one of the components approved by the Maryland State Department of Education and is central to the implementation of our research-to-practice partnership. Under this contract, UMD will hire literacy coaches to support four middle schools, Argyle, Briggs Chaney, Montgomery Village, and Odessa Shannon, and will conduct an evaluation of the coaching model in combination with our evidence-based literacy practices (PACT: Promoting Adolescents’ Comprehension of Text). This work builds upon our previous successful partnership with UMD on PACT practices and schoolwide literacy coaching and is designed to strengthen adolescent literacy outcomes across the participating schools. MCPS’s previous partnership with UMD around the PACT and PACT Plus practices demonstrated clear student benefits, with studies showing significant gains in main idea generation and standardized reading comprehension, medium effects favoring the AIM Coaching condition, and large, sustained improvements in reading outcomes and literacy self-efficacy even after researcher support was withdrawn. Awardee: University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland Contract $55,053 |

Contract Name: STEM Invention Programs and Maker Math Responsible Department: Department of Curriculum Development Description: This is a request for a new annual contract for two programs to be delivered in the 2025–2026 school year at selected elementary and middle schools. First, KID's Invention Programs are semester-long, standards-aligned, cross-disciplinary experiences that accelerate learning for students. Through a mix of classroom lessons, teacher professional development, and student field trips, students build Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and social-emotional skills critical for success in a fast-changing world. Second, Maker Math is a $55,053 Members of the Board of Education 5 December 11, 2025 teacher professional development program designed to leverage hands-on, maker-based instruction to amplify math curriculum. Funds under this contract also support teacher stipends, instructional materials, and transportation. Awardee: MOCO KidsCo Inc., dba Kid Museum, Inc., Bethesda, Maryland TOTAL PROCUREMENT CONTRACTS $25,000 OR MORE TWT:IAW:amd Attachment $800,000 Which elementary and middle schools get access to the Kid Museum as part of their curriculum? And why aren't those schools listed in this board document? Given that $800,000 is being funneled to the Kid Museum for this, this should not be information we have to suss out. |
Don't some schools have an after school program with KID? Hasn't the museum been receiving hundres of thousands every year since it opened? |
| My recollection was that KID Museum leader's husband was a prior BOE member, appointed to fill in upon death of a BOE member. So yes, KID Museum has relationship with MCPS. |
| Has KID museum made a positive impact on students? Who from MCPS uses the museum? Students earning SSL hours? Museum was relocated to a more expensive area -- to downtown Bethesda |

12:41 what do those schools have in place at the moment? It states previous partnership with UMD. Is 55k "enough" for literacy coaches? |
Correct |
And Joshua Starr’s wife works there. |
At KID? Now? |
