Friday's "snow?"

Which is exactly why making parents happy isn’t the priority. Student and staff safety is the focus. Parents are going to complain regardless.
If anyone doesn’t have backup plans, they should be working on them now. if you don’t need them tomorrow, you will at some point this winter.

"Back-up" plans can be plumb impossible to make if you have no family in the area, no flexibility at work, and can't pay a huge retainer to a potential nanny just in case you need her at any point in time... I don't know how some families do it, honestly.

This teacher is guessing a 2 hour delay announcement this evening by 11pm with reassess as conditions develop. Possible closure announcement by 8am depending on conditions/forecast at that time.

I hear Cat Malchodi has room for kids at her house.

Neighbors with kids? Classmates of your children? Hey Sally, I can take off tomorrow and keep our kids. Can you take off next time?

Years ago mcps would be the first to call it and others would follow suit.
Now they’re the last.

I agree, minus the morning closure announcement. It's supposed to snow an inch total over the entire course of the day. We should be more than fine with just a delay, to stagger the morning commute and make it a bit safer.

BUT... MCPS tends to make decisions that are more safety-oriented than my opinions.

After everything is done and it has warmed up?

The high tomorrow is only supposed to be around 32 degrees.

Exactly. Things on the ground will melt.

The meteorologist on NBC4 specifically said that there will be no melting on untreated roads until the weekend because we’re not going above freezing tomorrow. Treated roads should be fine.

Even if you believe that, then everything just stays as snow. That's fine, too.

No, the concern was never the snow itself. The snow is negligible. The concern is freezing rain mixing with snow on untreated streets when temperatures are below freezing. They’re not even calling for accumulations of ice; just patchy slippery spots.

If this storm fails to materialize as expected, it will be business as usual. If the storm models are correct and all streets are treated, it might be business as usual or a two hour delay, out of an abundance of caution. MCPS employees may need to salt sidewalks for pedestrians. If the storm overproduces, either a closure or a two hour delay is likely. The wild card is if there are numerous untreated streets and we do have slippery spots.

If we follow Maryland's space requirements for classrooms, she can take about 310 kids.

Taylor: "Hold my beer."

+1 he's ready to push the button now

I can so relate.

0% chance of delay or closure. This is ridiculous...9 pages.

You're forgetting how much Taylor likes buttons.
