Friday's "snow?"

praying for closure 🙏

Fairfax just announced a 2-hour delay.

FCPS 2hr delay, and PG 2hr delay, but both have portions more to the south, which is where the snow will tend to accumulate more.

I am sure that if MCPS hadn't had that daycare closure snafu on Tuesday, they'd have announced the 2 hr delay already. But they're still smarting, so they're pretending to take their time to consider, when everyone knows they'll cave and do a 2hr delay like everyone else. Daycare depending on providers, I guess, because upcounty will be hardly affected, and downcounty might be more affected.

After everything is done and it has warmed up?

The high tomorrow is only supposed to be around 32 degrees.

Exactly. Things on the ground will melt.

I’m a teacher.

So little is predicted. I’m confused why we would even need a delay. It’s the south that is getting something (though still not a lot). Even Silver Spring, our most southern area has sent predicting any issues. A delay called tomorrow only if this outperforms makes sense. But calling a delay now makes no sense to me.

Exactly. Things on the ground will melt.

The meteorologist on NBC4 specifically said that there will be no melting on untreated roads until the weekend because we’re not going above freezing tomorrow. Treated roads should be fine.

Early dismissal is not happening, precipitation won't have ended. On the contrary, there will be a two hour delay and a regular dismissal so kids miss the worst of the potentially slippery commute. And closure is out of the question since FCPS and PGCPS issued two hour delays, and they're slightly more to the south.

It'll be easy to see who's right.

I'd tell you to wear boots for the puddles, but there won't be enough precipitation to make puddles.

You're missing the latest development, which calls for an inch at the DC line (which means Bethesda, Silver Spring). Capital Weather Gang's map says a dusting to an inch, so if it snows an inch in Bethesda, they're going to say they were right. And an inch of snow falling on frozen ground during a dark morning rush hour... they're going to want to delay.

While the rest of MoCo complains that they only got rain! Hey, payback for every time it snows in Damascus and Silver Spring gets rain.

Even if you believe that, then everything just stays as snow. That's fine, too.

You can't possibly believe that it is rational to cancel or delay schools for an inch of snow. (which were won't get anyway)

DP. It's not reasonable, but it is what will happen.

They will definitely try to avoid bringing everyone in for just 2.25 hours or less of school that has to include lunch. That would result in a deluge of complaints from parents as it would be the worst of all worlds from a childcare perspective. In fact, I’m not even sure bus drivers could complete their elementary school morning routes before they’d have to start their high school afternoon routes in order to dismiss everyone at the standard early dismissal time of 2.5 before regular dismissal. If they have a two hour delay and then suspect an early dismissal will be warranted, they’ll pivot to a full closure.

This is accurate. There is no possible way for Transportation to pull this off.

I don't believe anything, my dear. My last kid is in 10th grade! I am SO DONE with all things school related, and not just the weather decisions I'm just telling you that a 2hr delay is probable, given the region's history with weather - not just MCPS, but all the counties surrounding DC. Did I think MCPS should have delayed on Tuesday? No, but it did anyway...
