No -- those girls wear long jumpers. It just starts in 7th grade when they switch to skirts. |

Also backpacks sometimes make the skirt ride up more in the back.
I tell my daughter (in public school) to be aware with a short skirt/dress and the backpack combo. It can ride up a lot and be embarrassing. I don’t think it’s appropriate for any teen, female or male, to be exposing so much in business. It’s not about policing clothing, it’s about self respect and boundaries. Sexy clothing is okay, but like most things it is not okay everywhere. |
My experience at another area school is most girls choose to wear tights or leggings under skirts in cold weather. Or to just wear pants, which are allowed and are part of the uniform. The HA thing is bizarre to me, with girls wearing their skirts that insanely short and then layering them over these huge baggy sweats in the winter. One thing I think about is how these outfits on the HA website would not be considered acceptable in any other setting. No workplace would permit dressing like this. You could be asked to leave a restaurant or a play for these clothes. I guess maybe in Vegas or Miami there may be adults who dress this way, but not working in the kind of jobs that I'm guessing most HA students aspire to. It just shouldn't be that hard to get students to dress such that they are not exposing their underwear. |
This means naked body parts. Not parts covered by underwear, or my guess is spandex “shorts.” OP did not say she saw bare skin. |
The jumpers in lower school are also kind of baggy and longer than typical, so I think there's this cultural thing where the girls cannot wait to stop wearing those big jumpers, and the ultra short skirts are partly a response to having worn these kind of dowdy jumpers for years. The younger girls look up to the older girls and want to emulate them, and can't wait to dress like them. |
WOW> The banner has a short-skirt girl. Amazing. In my day, public school shorts had to be middle-finger tip long. |

The whole look is very very sloppy looking. Even the pics from their website. The issue is that these type of skirts flare out since they’re pleated. Surprised they get away with not tucking shirts in too. My school would have had a fit.
I had these same skirts when I was in school. It was that or these atrocious pleated pants that gave even the thinnest girl a FUPA. We were miserable. Pretty sure the pants were boy pants and not girl pants. I’m petite and they came up so so high. Finally school moved to these nice flat skorts. No icky pleats. |
Ours used a ruler from your knee. Most workplaces wouldn’t allow skirts this short. I’m positive HR would sit any woman down with skirts this short. I wouldn’t wear anything shorter than just above my knee. It’s not sexualizing girls to not want to be mooned. I also don’t want to be mooned by boys… |

Have been trying to tell my dd this as her shorts get shorter and shorter.
I appreciate what she is trying to do with her short shorts and her long shirt and I understand the leg/.torso proportion that she’s going for, but I have tried to tell her so many times that I can see her butt. And her only response is why are you looking? Because.. it is right there. It shouldn’t be visible to me. The past four years, she wasn’t like this,. In fact, she would make fun of girls wearing shorter shorts than she was. And then her shorts got shorter, and then she would make fun of girls wearing shorter shorts than she was, and so forth. Now I think she’s wearing just about the shortest you can wear.

Why don't you just refuse to buy her skirts, refuse to let her leave the house if she doesn't put shorts on underneath, etc. I'm not a super authoritarian parent but in that situation I'd be telling my DD that while it's her body and her choice, there are basic standards of decency in society and I can't allow her to walk around wearing clothes that would get her kicked out of a grocery store for looking indecent. And when she pulls the "why are you looking, why are you policing what women wear" BS, I'd be sure to let her know that I'd do the same with a son wearing his pants so baggy his underwear shows, or walking around shirtless in places where that is not appropriate. It is a form of respect to other people to not force them to look at your underwear or naked parts of your body that are conventionally covered in most social settings. |
This is a good point. Why can't they all wear cute, age appropriate uniforms? Those jumpers look silly on the lower school girls as well. |
The MS girls make fun of the US girls and then eventually end up following suit. It's tough to parent a teen girl. It's hard to know which battles to pick. We're a conservative family in terms of dress, and I just don't know how to handle it. |
Partial exposure is not exposure. If it were, exposing any cleavage would be illegal https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna10700493 |

Oh there were no shorts. There were underwear. And skimpy ones at that. One had on a thong. You can buy these skirts with and without shorts and these were not the shorts version |
NP, and 100% agreed. I came onto this thread anticipating some pearl-clutching nonsense and ready to tell the OP to join the 21st century, but that's so short that any sort of leaning over, even just to pick up their iced latte across the counter, will reveal full butt. No. That's too short, and I'm alarmed that the school not only allows but seems to encourage it. |
