Is UVA's reputation declining?

Anonymous
UVA and UMD are solid peers and this idea that UVA was ever an elite institution is laughable. It has no declined, it is exactly what it always has been.

UVA is the Rutgers of Virginia.

I'm just waiting for the UGA poster to start saying UVA and UGA are the same level in this thread. Popcorn.

If Maryland and Virginia were combined into one state, UMD would certainly not be the most selective.

UVA would win for humanities and UMD for STEM.

It took small hit when the magazine introduced Pell grant recipients into its formula, then it promptly climbed back. This is not a university “declining” in the rankings. It’s a university holding steady. Remarkably steady, in fact.

Patently untrue. Thanks for the lies.

2016: #26
2020: #28
2021: #26

In recent years UVA has been slipping.

Wasn’t a lie. Was a small mistake. I missed 2016, but other than that I was spot on. Besides, 2016 isn’t exactly recent - and nine years later UVA is ranked 24th. So how is it “slipping” exactly?

It’s not, that other poster just suffers from extreme confirmation bias.

Are you on drugs and/or drunk? You said 2000 and 2001.

Yea I did. Typo. 2020 and 2021, not 2000 and 2001. Sue me. But if you did, I’d hire a lawyer from top 5 ranked UVA law and win. LOL

Why does anyone on this thread care what other people think?

UVA is not alway a top 5 public school either. That varies based on the specific year and the ranking. Top 10 public is also even a maybe.

UVA is top 5 within Virginia.

+1 outside Virginia it is a forgotten and irrelevant school

47,000 out of state applicants this year (up 10% from 2024) did not forget about it.

They need a safety school.

With a 13% acceptance rate, they will have to look elsewhere.

It’s frustrating that a small number (one?) of trolls can start and prolong asinine threads like this. I can’t imagine that anyone who has been reading this board over the last week is now convinced by these trolls that UVA is a pedestrian has-been or never-was. Multiple threads contain clear posts explaining that this is, obviously, far from true. Enough already.

from 1983 to 2007

University of Virginia 15 20 21 18 21 22 21 17 19 21 21 22 22 20 24 23 21 22 23 24

In its 2001 poll, U.S. News & World Report ranks the University of Virginia and the University of California-Berkeley in a tie as the top public national university. U.Va. ranked second last year.

2011
August 17, 2010 — Public colleges and universities – challenged by tight state budgets – lost ground to private schools in the 2011 U.S. News & World Report rankings, released today.
The University of Virginia held on to its spot in the top 25, tying for 25th place with the University of California-Los Angeles and Wake Forest University. Besides U.Va. and UCLA, only one other public institution was ranked among the top 25 – the University of California-Berkeley, which ranked 22nd overall and was the No. 1 public

In U.S. News & World Report's 2024 rankings, the University of Virginia (UVA) is ranked 24th overall in the country and 4th among public universities. Additionally, it's the 3rd best value public school.

When you only care about what USNews tells you to think, it raises questions about your judgement.

So UVA is top 25 because USNews said so? Based on what exactly? How is quality measured? Are student outcomes comparable to other elite schools?

The troll is annoying. But UVA has taken a hit because of its MAGA infestation.
