It’s politicians’ job to cope with climate change and to protect the population as best they can. You can’t just work to prevent it in the future, cutting emissions etc - you have to mitigate today.

Democrats are hellbent on “fighting climate change” versus adapting to it.

Only those that adapt to change survive.

The first stage is to acknowledge the problem. The GOP deny it. You can't adapt to something you don't even acknowledge.

And of course part of dealing with climate change is to adapt things to the new reality. But again with the acknowledging part...

GOP have nothing to do with California. California and especially Los Angeles is run by democrats.

Agree. The state is entirely run by the left and far left. There literally is no republican influence in the state whatsoever.

These fires are just another example of terrible leadership. Like Chicago, Portland, NYC, Baltimore, etc.

Another issue is that looks like it. It’s heavily white and many of firefighters don’t even live in the state of California. Fly in from places like Idaho and Nevada to do their shifts and then they leave with their paychecks. If you’re familiar with the show, southern charm of the characters, husband is a California firefighter who lives in South Carolina! He flies in every other week to do his shifts up in Sacramento and then flies home. This is the root of the labor issue with the Los Angeles fire department and other fire departments in California.

Apologies for some errors in this. I used voice to text and didn’t spellcheck. But I think you get the general gist of what I’m saying.

Sounds like more blue state dollars subsidizing red states economies.

You don't think red state taxpayers will be helping to bail out California from these horrific fires?

Bail them out with what? the money is in the blue States

Red state folks pay federal taxes.

Not the rich ones. Less and less and less with each trump admin.

Another leftist lie. The top 1% of income earners in the US foot 40% of the total taxes paid each year. You're not funding the Ukraine war with your Uber gig. The fact that people even believe this idiotic line is a testiment to our terrible education system.

Planning for climate change really is a local issue. New Orleans is not going to plan the same way LA is going to.

Climate change does not happen overnight.

Wild fires have been part of California before it was known as California.
Miami is not really working that issue as part of their plan.

When I read these posts blaming climate change for the fires, I sometimes imagine the poster as a prehistoric pagan blaming some rival god called "climate change." It has a mystical feel, finding a boogeyman vs accepting that wind and droughts have always been around.

It is crazy that this fire is still burning and threatening homes!

The cynical part of me thinks it's to get a photo of Trump in front of the fire damage so that Newsom can use it politically to avoid further blame directed at him.

I think it is good that he is doing this. Biden sadly is not able and it is a waste of resources to set this up for him. Newsom is going to need to change a lot of things and he can say he was forced by Trump. Who cares FYI-moving forward people need to be protected and some of the aggressive environmental stuff needs to be changed. It has been too much. Right now everyone needs to work together and fight about politics later. This fire is not finished and the fall out will be going on for years. I feel for these people. I am also wondering if anything can be done about the insurance. Was there any chance to find another policy. Could something force the insurers to grandfather if they are allowed to raise rates. I understand raising rates due to risk but people should not have been shut out of insurance. Wondering if Trump and Newsom can work together on this with the insurance companies.

Sorry, but someone needs to tell that to Newsom. He is the governor of California. He doesn't NEED Trump to tour the damage.

People who had insurance should be compensated fairly for their loss.

People who did not probably will get little to nothing unless they can prove that LA/California was negligent in allowing there homes to burn down.

Newsom doesn't "need" Trump any more than he needs Biden because they are inept leaders that won't be able to offer anything more than the Federal dollars and resources that are already being thrown at the problem. Now is when we need a legitimate POTUS who is capable of providing presidential leadership. Hopefully Americans will have learned their lesson by 2028 so we can put this Trump/Biden ridiculousness behind us.

The Santa Ana winds have been around for millennia and so have the droughts. Stop blaming cLiMaTe ChAnGe on poor planning and the need to amass gobs of people into small spaces.

I agree with the arson, it seems very deliberate.

January is the rainy season. This is not normal or else January wouldn’t have been known as the “rainy season”.

According to the Los Angles Almanac for Pasadena: since 2000 rainfall in January has been below the seasonal average by as much as 12%.

Yep. That’s why democrats have been pushing policies to address climate change.

Sounds great until that focus distracts you from filling your water reservoirs, conducting controlled burns, clearing brush. Aka actually helping your electorate.

The GOP party, their politicians and voters, were in position to be the adult in the room and to completely change the landscape of Congress to an overwhelming majority sea of red due to Biden and the dysfunction in the Dem party but the idiot GOP voters were once again conned into the Trump madness. Seriously, just way too many idiots in this country.
