Why do atheists post on the Religion forum?

I wish I had known about this forum when I was first questioning religion. It would have been very helpful to know that there are seemingly intelligent, good-humored and logical people who have rejected religion.

This is one of the few places that I feel free to discuss atheism. Being religious is the default position in the US, even though recent studies indicate that fewer people these days are religious.

If that were what the atheists on this forum were, that would be great. I'd love to be challenged to think deeply.

What I mostly read is angry, combative people spewing misinformation and shouting "That's not rational!"

It kills every thread.

Your are 100% correct that it does.

But you are totally clueless as to why that happens.

You can continue thinking that it's because the atheists are just so self-evidently right that they win every argument.

However I'd recommend a little more humility.

Do you think 2+2=4? would it indicate humility for you to agree with someone who insisted that 2+2 did not = 4?

It's not humility that drives atheists; it's facts.

Well, you are not going to get any, because it is unwarranted, and religion and religious people have shown they do not deserve it, and that in fact people are being harmed every day because the rest of us tolerate this bronze age bullsh*t.

Good job proving my point that the atheists OP is talking about (good-humored and logical) are not the ones dominating the discussion. Thanks.

I have yet to see hard facts for the non-existence of God proven. Because just like a logical/scientific proof for the existence of God, a proof that God does not exist is impossible.

Man you either can't read or you just refuse to understand. You had no point that needed proof - it wasn't disputed (except for this recent claim you are not getting logic. You're getting logic in spades, and you don't like it).

It is not disputed that some of us will no longer be "good-humored" about your bronze age BS because it causes harm, pain, and even death to our fellow citizens. I am done being "good-natured" about that and in fact I am embarrassed I ever was. You don't deserve it.

DP - Yes, correct, just like you can't prove Vishnu doesn't exist, or Leprechauns. It's a preposterous requirement. Which is why nearly no atheist will claim to be able to disprove the generic concept of the supernatural.

But there is no logical reason to believe in one, just as there is no logical reason to believe in Leprechauns. And yes, your god and Leprechauns are exactly the same thing. Sorry you don't like that.

They want to change your mind and make sure to take people away from their God. It's pretty evil in my opinion.

That's because you are brainwashed, and you do not realize the hard your beliefs are doing to the world (and have for a long time).

Open your eyes and see that there is insufficient evidence to believe there is a god - certainly not to the point where you need to enforce these crazy bronze-age beliefs on others through public policy and societal pressures. That is TRUE evil. REAL evil. Evil that you put on REAL humans EVERY DAY.

Was it just good luck that you were born into a family that knew that your God was the only true god? Bad luck for the others born into no religion or another religion or 6000 years ago? Or 100,000 years ago.

Correct - the true evil is trying to make people believe in bronze-age religions via public policy and societal pressure.

Why not try to make people believe that Cinderella is real? Because Cinderella is only for kids -- like other fairy tales, including your bronze-age myths.

But it's more than just brainwashing -- it's also very comforting to believe that when you die, you go to heaven and live forever.

Comforting, but not true.

And you aren't using public policy and societal pressures to enforce your beliefs? Ask yourself - if you moved to a country where Sharia law was in effect, or a community governed by Orthodox Jews or the left's favorite hated Christian nationalists, would you try to make change? And do you think some people would - gasp - disagree?

So you're triggered when someone tells you (calmly) that your thoughts are not rational?

The posts above you look calm to you? OK.

I've posted multiple times about irrational posts. Calmly each time. Perhaps you are conflating posters?

Actually, almost all civil cases are based on a standard of a preponderance of evidence which means 50.1. And, yes, after looking at all of the objective evidence, my belief in God absolutely exceeds that standard. It actually goes higher than that — but it is not 100 percent. I freely admit that. But it doesn’t need to be.

DP. I’m still curious what believers mean by “objective evidence”.

Well, I am atheist and think atheists like you are evil, unintelligent, and naive.

Frankly I would rather converse with believers and find your comments to be supremely stupid and ill-informed.
