I want to talk with similarly-minded people and I want religious people to think more about their beliefs. I wish I had known about this forum when I was first questioning religion. It would have been very helpful to know that there are seemingly intelligent, good-humored and logical people who have rejected religion. This is one of the few places that I feel free to discuss atheism. Being religious is the default position in the US, even though recent studies indicate that fewer people these days are religious.
If that were what the atheists on this forum were, that would be great. I'd love to be challenged to think deeply. What I mostly read is angry, combative people spewing misinformation and shouting "That's not rational!" It kills every thread.
Your are 100% correct that it does. But you are totally clueless as to why that happens.
You can continue thinking that it's because the atheists are just so self-evidently right that they win every argument. However I'd recommend a little more humility.
Do you think 2+2=4? would it indicate humility for you to agree with someone who insisted that 2+2 did not = 4? It's not humility that drives atheists; it's facts.
I have yet to see hard facts for the non-existence of God proven. Because just like a logical/scientific proof for the existence of God, a proof that God does not exist is impossible.
DP - Yes, correct, just like you can't prove Vishnu doesn't exist, or Leprechauns. It's a preposterous requirement. Which is why nearly no atheist will claim to be able to disprove the generic concept of the supernatural. But there is no logical reason to believe in one, just as there is no logical reason to believe in Leprechauns. And yes, your god and Leprechauns are exactly the same thing. Sorry you don't like that.
