Correct - the true evil is trying to make people believe in bronze-age religions via public policy and societal pressure.

Why not try to make people believe that Cinderella is real?  Because Cinderella is only for kids -- like other fairy tales, including your bronze-age myths.

But it's more than just brainwashing -- it's also very comforting to believe that when you die, you go to heaven and live forever.
