Dude. I am 1000% supportive and excited in real life. I asked an anonymous online question (that by the looks of it on here is a reasonable question to ask). |
I don’t think it’s true it has the lowest pass rate. It is the least taken test…I actually recall seeing it has the highest pass rate (3 or better) because it is a very self selecting group that takes the class and the test. |
There was reported RAMPANT cheating in China this year. Massive. Is it possible that they have a harder time cheating on AP Lang? I would imagine that cheating on the science disciplines is quite easy. The tests were leaked in advance of being taken. |
No. You are talking about Physics 1. Physics C has a far higher pass rate, and a shockingly low %score required to pass. Is Physics C eaiser than Physics 1? Hmm, maybe. It shows how silly AP system is. https://library.fiveable.me/ap-info/ap-exam-info/hardest-easiest-ap-classes/study-guide/cEErtB4gT1Ng8x2u |
No, it's because AP physics C is generally only taken by very top students. AP physics 1 is taken by all-comers. At our private high school none of the strong STEM students even take physics 1. It's a course only taken by humanities kids. |
This is what happens at a school that gets paid more when more students win, not paid more to reduce the achievement gap. |
That doesn’t surprise me at all. The one Chinese student in my kid’s private high school in the US was expelled for cheating three times. His mother cried discrimination. His brother graduated with honors a year earlier and didn’t cheat so that didn’t explain their outcomes…just a case study but it tracks. |
Is your private school in China? I doubt it. Your racism got tangled up there. What does "expelled" mean? |
It says 27% of test takers got a 1 on the AP Psych exam. Never thought of that one as being a particularly difficult exam. |
Mine has so far gotten all 3's on all AP tests taken, even in the subjects for intended study. Not really a big deal. DC will get some credits for some of the classes, even if just for electives. And would not "test out" of the major classes anyway as the intended grad school paths do not accept AP classes (e.g., you get a 5 on AP bio, you'd still have to take bio in college as the grad schools in this field do not accept your AP score as a substitute).
I wish the scores were higher to score some elective credits. But so far, with AP and DE, DC should have credits for 2 AP classes and 2 DE classes. So we are good with this (we already know where DC is going due to athletic commitment). |
(1) It's considered an "easy" AP that many middling students take. Kind of like AP Environmental Science. (2) A lot of schools don't have the class so kids self-study or just wing it. |
I don't care who got what on the AP exams. I'd rather have the GPA number as I think that is more reflective of whether the material was understood. AP exams are a specific animal and the kids are taught how to take the tests, in addition to the material. So they are not as reflective of material, imo. You don't have to agree. And that's fine. |
Grad school requires Bio 101, but won't accept Bio 102, 201, 301 as substitutea?! |
Also Physics 1 doesn't require a prior physics class unlike AP Bio or AP Chem which require 1 year of high school Bio, chemistry as prerequisite. |
CB cancels many scores in China including physics, chemistry, biology, calculus, statistics, economics, psychology, environmental sciences, etc https://tinypic.host/images/2024/07/08/20240708_120540.jpg |
