2024 AP Exams - Results

Two 3’s were sufficient for 6 college credits. Mission accomplished!

3 is fine. Some colleges will give credit- state universities mostly (I think) - more colleges won’t give credit, but it’s still a respectable showing. Certainly not bad.

Is a 4 considered bad? Should DC not list it on his colleges apps?

Absolutely list 4s and 5s.

4 have to be listed, they are very good but 5s are better, my kid has three 4s and one 5 and wanted top 20 so not sure that is now doable..and now demoralized and will have tougher time prepping for the SAT, this is the ugly part of perfectionism, not sure what i can tell them to cheer them up

Kid was upset with his scores. 3s in Physics 1, APUSH, and AP Comp A. He was pretty surprised by the Comp A, as he felt really good about it. Oh well. Thankfully he has a good SAT score, so hopefully that will get him in where he wants to go.

People seriously got up at 4:30 for this? Relax.

I got up at 2am on the West Coast. For us it is very strongly linked to applications to the UK where the AP result is taken as the equivalent of an A level. Without them, no offers.

Curious, is a 3 viewed as bad or good?

Its a C grade.
For the colleges and courses my kids are applying to, they need multiple 5's in the relevant subjects.
So no a 3 is not "good" as such.

In the UK you mean? I'm just curious. My dd is thinking of applying to a couple UK colleges. She has 3 5s, 2 4s and one 3 so far (in Precalc...she's not a Math kid)

You are getting bad info. I have two kids at T10 ,(one last year and one this year). Neither of them listed their AP scores. DC1 never got any 5s and DC 2 only received 5s on exams taken senior year. Focus on SAT!!!

You need 5s for top 20s? So a score of 4 will disqualify you? This is depressing. My 10th grader was really excited about getting a 4 on their first AP.

My daughter was also very happy with a 3 on Spanish!

Not sure where they took the test, but when DC took it, it was in the auditorium, and they said the sound on the recordings were bad, so they had a hard time hearing the audio. This was two years ago. They got a 3 on AP spanish, but a 7 (highest score) on the IB spanish test.

Was that a 9th grader? There looks like an ambitious 9th grader schedule.

In a normal non-College Board $$$ world,
That would be:

Honors Physics, and then go for a 5 on Physics C as a senior.

Honors World history, and 5 in AP USH in junior year when they are ready for deeper History content. (Or vice versa, Honors USH and then AP Euro/World)

Honors Computer Programming I, then 5 on AP CS A after taking a more substantial Programming II class.

But instead we pay College Board to give our kids 3s for doing well in high school level honors classes.

Cambridge only accepts 5s, and requires 5 of them.
But they make tentative offers confirmed by senior year exams.

Our N.VA school district allows you to take AP GOV SENIOR year. Granted I know anyone can self study for an AP test, it is just a bit insane how different things are across the board for when certain classes are taught.

My DC got a 4 on APUSH and Lang. I'm happy because it's the first time taking AP. DC attends a school that most on this board would look down on, so glad to know they are learning and passed.

So then you were not the one who started this thread at 4:33 a.m. (hopefully).

NP- My ds said there were audio issues with his this year, just bad quality recordings as well.
